DDR Coverage@HardOCP

The downside? You will have to purchase a new mainboard, new Ram, and possibly a new CPU to take advantage of it. I just got word from Alex over at Sharky Extreme that Chris Angelini has successfully overclocked a 200MHz bus Duron 600 on their DDR mainboard from AMD. The Duron accepted the 266MHz bus and did run stable over 800MHz clock speed. So what this means to us DIYers is that we MIGHT be able to get away with a cheaper upgrade that will not involve the cost of a CPU. Hell, what is funny is that the CPU has gotten to be the cheapest part of the investment.

That brings me to the final question. Do you need to upgrade to an AMD DDR system? The answer is two fold. Yes you do, and no you don't. My suggestion at the current time would be if you are already in the market, or are about to be in the market for a system upgrade, you would be foolish to not check into moving to a DDR system. No, their stability has not been proven yet, but I have faith in this product for some reason and don't see too many problems associated with it (Boy, I hope I am right.). If you are thinking about upgrading simply because of DDR, and you already have an 800 to 900MHz+ system, I would say you are NOT going to be extremely impressed. I honestly don't think it is worth the money right now. Hang onto that system and maybe bump the CPU up again as the prices continue to plummet
