IO ho scaricato il file boot.img e l'ho scritto con rawwrite....

Prova a riscriverlo perchè a me è capitato spesso che qualcosa andasse storto .... magari il floppy è difettato

Altrimenti prova a usare il floppy di boot con cui fai partire damn small... dovrebbe funzionare .

sono riuscito a far partire Feather con il bootdisk della DSL....ma il problema è sempre lo stesso....come la installo su HD?

ho provato con feather a dare il seguente comando da terminale :
dd if=/dev/cdrom of=/dev/hda1

sembra fosse andato tutto ok....invece niente....chissà dove sbaglio....

adesso sto riprovando con DSL!

1. Create a app. 250-300MB Linux partition with cfdisk or fdisk (e.g. /dev/hda1, /dev/sda2)
2. Boot into DSL by using you CD and enter the terminal.

and enter the just created partition (e.g. /dev/hda1, /dev/sda2)
This will make a ext2 file system and copies the CD contents to it.
A couple of specific changes are made after that (see end of script)
4. Execute "mkliloboot" by typing "sudo -u root mkliloboot" (without the quotes)
Enter the partition that your install is on. This will create an "initrd" with the needed modules and will setup "LILO".
Setup is now done. ;))

Non mi sembra di aver notato segnalazioni relative a Crux Linux (http://www.crux.nu/), una distribuzione ottimizzata per i686 ma disponibile ed ottimizzata anche per i486:

"2005-04-26: CRUX 2.1 for i486, i586 and x86_64
CRUX 2.1 is now also available for i486 (with uClibc), i586 and x86_64. You will find these ISO images in the download section (http://crux.nu/download.html)"

Per quanto riguarda la possibilità di avvio da cd (e non solo) consiglio vivamente SMART BOOT MANAGER (http://btmgr.webframe.org/):

Smart Boot Manager (SBM) is an OS independent and full-featured boot manager with an easy-to-use user interface. There are some screen shots available.

The main goals of SBM are Absolutly OS independent, Flexable and Full-Featured. It has all of the features needed to boot a variety of OSes from several kinds of media, while keeping its size no more than 30K bytes. In another words, SBM does NOT touch any of your partitions, it totally fits into the first track (the hidden track) of your harddisk!" (ndr. il programma - da me testato su un vecchissimo pentium - può anche risiedere su floppy disc).

Grazie per i consigli ma , per adesso, preferirei risolvere il problema senza cambiare altre distro!
Vorrei istallare feather o DSL sull'HD

Ho provato ad installare DSL(lo stesso cd) su un altro pc ed è andato tutto ok....5 minuti e ho installato tutto!
Arrivati a questo punto non saprei nemmeno quale distro (ovviamente semplice) potrei installarci!

non penso sia un problema hardware....
cmq ho provato anche con baslinux e.....una volta che carica dai floppy funziona tutto....ma non si installa

Ce l'ho fatta e devo anche dire che sono un co...one!!!!

Praticamente quando ho sostituito la batteria della CMOS non mi sono accorto che dovevo settare i parametri dell'HD manulamente!

Adesso ho installato DSL e sta facendo il primo boot da HD!

Dobro..ti terrò informato su come gira...per il momento grazieeeee e scusami!
