Nuova intervista a 3dfx

At the Comdex trade show in Las Vegas on Wednesday, Wolford told Gamecenter that the Voodoo5 6000 has not been cancelled; that 3dfx will not start selling current chipset technology to third parties such as Creative Labs and ELSA; that Voodoo products, including current graphics and TV cards, will continue to be manufactured; and that the company is not going belly-up any time soon.

Despite recent rumblings on the Internet, do not expect to see third-party, 3dfx-powered boards in the United States and Europe, however. We do not want to compete with our own brand, Wolford said. Voodoo3 we are selling strictly in Asia. He added that VSA-100, the chip that powers Voodoo4 and Voodoo5 boards, are not being sold to third parties and probably will not be in the near future.

If we can find somebody else to actually take the silicon, take the [circuit boards], slap them together, and sell it cheaper than we can do it ourselves, then for the sake of returning to profitability we have to look at that, said Wolford. As far as the [Juarez] facility, we are hopefully selling an asset and getting cash back for it; we obviously have to go after that.
