Vediamoli insime (copio incollo...)

Half-Life 2
Publisher: Vivendi Universal
Developer: Valve Software
Release Date: Fall

Why It's Awesome: Hmm, lemme think. Around 36 hours of deliciously beautiful single-player, and Half-Life: Source and Counter-Strike: Source are reportedly going to ship in the box. That's a helluva lot of tasty gaming. The bits and pieces we've seen the game have been uniformly yummy, and although it's been delayed about a year, no one is doing HL2's facial expression system or lip syncing. Extremely high-poly character models, High Dynamic Range lighting, dynamic AI, stunning object interaction with complex physics (gravity gun!)…it's a long list, and we doubt the actual gameplay will disappoint.

Star Wars Battlefront
Publisher: LucasArts
Developer: Pandemic Studios
Release Date: September

Why It's Awesome: Dude, it's like BF1942 in the Star Wars universe. Is that not spiffy? Stormtroopers, Rebel pilots, AT-AT commanders, Republic Guards and a wide variety of vehicles out of the films--, including X-wings, snowspeeders and AT-STs. Battles from both the original series as well as the prequel trilogy. Team up or go head-to-head to fight on ten planets from the George Lucas franchise and use a variety of weapons and vehicles. We've seen this done before with Battlefield mods, but if Pandemic can bring the same hotness they had with Full Spectrum Warrior and put their previous Star Exeperience to use (Clone Wars on the PS2 and Xbox), then we could have something damn sexy on our hands.

Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault
Publisher: Electronic Arts
Developer: EA Los Angeles
Release Date: November

Why It's Awesome: What, another Medal of Honor game? Ah, but there's more here than meets the eye. Welcome to World War Two's Pacific Theater, home of historic naval battles, Kamikazes, submarines, and other fun stuff. You'll be on the ground for this one, as part of a squad. This is no Rambo-type thing. You'll want to stick with your team and combine your firepower to complete your objectives and defeat the enemy. Dynamic dialogue will keep you oriented from moment to moment, telling you where bad guys are popping up and what your squad mates are doing. If you get shot--and you will get shot--physical damage can cause blurred vision and muted hearing. You won't be able to slap on a medical kit and pop right back into the action. This arcade aspect has been replaced with field medics who'll be fighting right alongside you. As an added bonus, the graphics have been overhauled, with noticeably sharp textures. Not too shabby.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Publisher: THQ
Developer: GSC Game World
Release Date: Q4

Why It's Awesome: We were first introduced to STALKER through some very impressive videos showing a thorough physics system, shiny DirectX effects, bullets penetrating walls, massive amounts of foliage, and ugly beasties. This bleak near-future actioner looks like it's going to be one of the most open-ended games of its type that we've seen in a while. Like Fallout done as a 3D FPS, with a healthy dose of monster scariness and spooky science.

Tribes: Vengeance
Publisher: Vivendi Universal
Developer: Irrational
Release Date: Q4

Why It's Awesome: The venerable jetpacky series is finally back for another installment, and it's looking juicy. An upgraded physics system integrates jet-packing, running, skiing and piloting, and new weapons and vehicles add to the classic Tribes arsenal. Multiplayer supports up to 32 players, and man oh man are some of these maps big. Hovering attack planes, buggies, three types of armor, and bunches of cool weapons are already in place, and fighting solo against one of the beefy vehicles just has to be experienced in order to appreciate the coolness of it. The bunny hopping on steroids may be an acquired taste, but once you get the hang of it, it can make for some of the best first-person duels we've had since UT2004.

Men of Valor
Publisher: Vivendi Universal
Developer: 2015
Release Date: October

Why It's Awesome: 2015, made up of former members of the Medal of Honor team, have shifted over to a historical first-person shooter portrays infantry combat during the Vietnam War, using the Unreal engine. You'll wade through the humid jungles of Southeast Asia and battle your way through dangerous scenarios, from search and destroy missions around Danang airbase to the Tet offensive and the counterattack on Hue, or challenge friends in various multiplayer modes, which allow you to view the war from the perspective of the Viet Cong guerillas as well as U.S. forces.

Close Combat: First to Fight
Publisher: Destineer
Developer: Destineer
Release Date: September

Why It's Awesome: Last year, the U.S. Marine Corps released Atomic's Close Combat Marine, the first commercial title developed with the U.S. Marines and released throughout the Marine Corps, now being used as a tactical training tool for the Marine Corps and at the US Military Academy at West Point. Using the well known MAGTAF (Marine Air Ground Task Force) rules, players control the fire team leader from the third battalion, first Marines, in a series of indoor and outdoor missions in a hostile Middle Eastern environment. The emphasis on this game is authenticity, genuineness and to bring your experience as close as possible to the Marines experience in a videogame.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________

Starship Troopers
Publisher: Empire Interactive
Developer: Strangelite
Release Date: Fall

Why It's Awesome: Rooted firmly in Paul Verhoeven's interpretation of Robert Heinlein's novel about an epic battle of humankind against a menacing planet of bugs), this first-person shooter has Roughnecks plowing through literally hundreds of bugs at a time in onslaught after onslaught of intense encounters. The game's advanced engine allows for well over a hundred alien creatures at a time in battle scenes to bring the hellacious bug fights to life. (The previous game based on Starship Troopers, an RTS from another publisher, put more emphasis on the novel's elements.

ShellShock: Nam '67
Publisher: Eidos
Developer: Guerilla Games
Release Date: September

Why It's Awesome: ShellShock: Nam '67 focuses on one guy's experience of the infamous Vietnam War and distinguishes itself with a Saving Private Ryan level of grittiness. People get shot to hell, both soldiers and civilians. There are precious few rules aside from those you need for survival. In the role of a young man on his first tour of duty, you must fight your way through a variety of missions ranging from large scale battlefield encounters with the North Vietnamese Army to stealth-based missions, such as assassinating a VC general. Rural Vietnamese villages and claustrophobic tunnel systems set the scene as you progress from a 'grunt' to Special Forces, carrying out classified missions.

Painkiller: Battle out of Hell
Publisher: DreamCatcher
Developer: People Can Fly
Release Date: October

Why It's Awesome: Picking up right where Painkiller left off, the ten-chapter Battle out of Hell is set to bring in beefier visuals, CTF for multiplayer, new weapons, and more. The map toolkit will allow the community to add a bunch of maps, since PCF doesn't plan to make many of those--" We always preferred quality to quantity," says Adrian Chmielarz, Project Lead. However, we can expect to see the same avalanche of beasties a la Serious Sam, but with an all-new array of demons and whatnot. PCF also hopes to release a demo before the retail release, plus tools for creating "single player adventures."

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 2
Publisher: Ubisoft
Developer: Red Storm Entertainment
Release Date: Fall/Winter

Why It's Awesome: It's rather awesome when a developer sees the problems from a previous game and takes care of that stuff with the next installment. With GR2, North Korea is hit by China with a trade embargo, and tensions quickly escalate into open warfare, whereupon the Ghost squad is sent in on a covert insertion to defuse the situation. The fifteen missions in GR2 are looking to be much less linear and scripted, plus there will be the XM8, a modular replacement for the M4 than can be adjusted for sniping and other duties. There's also some pretty realistic animation and environment destructibility, which is always a good thing. Ubi recently recent published some shots from the Xbox version, and it's looking pretty.
