Review EPoX 8KTA3

Not that you would care, but I have had more fun these last few days testing this board. The VIA KT133A chipset on the EPoX board has brought some avenues of excitement back to the OCers that wanted to go the AMD route like myself. We now have CPUs we are pushing to the limits - along with chipsets, memory sticks, and mainboards to boot. Tweaking out the 8KTA3 was kinda like living on the edge again. Yeah, I know, I need to get out more....

EPoX has done a bang-up job on the 8KTA3. This is the third KT133A board we have had the pleasure of testing, and I have to say it is certainly a board you will want to look at when and if you go to buy yourself an upgrade any time soon. The features are honed for the overclockers and tweakers out there. Outside of having a built-in bidet, there is not much more they could have done to make this board perfect for the hardware that is out there now.

The scores on the 8KTA3 are extremely impressive, and I have to say that I think any DDR board with JUST a 266MHz bus is going to have a hard time making this board look bad. EPoX has stepped back into the OCers' ring here, and now we will see if we can find these boards on the shelves. If you can find them at a decent price, I have no problems recommending you buy one for your next system. I will say this, I think you would be disappointed if you simply jumped from a KT133 board that already has a good 1GHz or close CPU behind it, to this board. I do not see the value in that, but if you are looking at migrating from a VIA133 or 133A chipset board, a sub-700MHz system, or just wanting to get away from your old Socket 370 board, this 8KTA3 deserves some of your attention.
