scusate se mi ripeto ma per un q6600 c'è bisogno di un aggiornamento del bios?

Ragazzi, ho trovato per caso un interessantissimo post sul forum ufficiale di ASUS, lo riporto:
[Problem]DDR2 (1066, 800, etc.) memory problems & the P5E - Solution Plan OK All, I hope that this thread is a solution thread for all those with memory problems and the P5E. I am going to lay out a plan here that hopefully will get everyone with memory problems up and running on their P5E. First off, let’s start with the BIOS. My recommendation, based on Bobmitmen's testing (and my own verification as well as ASUS's recommendations), is to use the oldest BIOS that supports your CPU (and that doesn't give you any other problems). My machine has a Q6600 in it, so that would be BIOS 0201 for me. You can check ASUS's chart here for your CPU. If your board has a newer BIOS, you may want to flash back to an older one (they seem to be more stable prior to 0203 according to some info. that Bobmitmen found). If you do need to flash back, you can use ASUS's BIOS update utility version 6.10.02 here, which allows you to flash an older BIOS. Now that you have the BIOS, let’s talk about the RAM. ASUS apparently overvolts the RAM a bit in the BIOS. The latest info. I have read, shows a linear overvoltage of about .057v. So your BIOS settings and actual voltage to the RAM would look like this: BIOS / Actual --- BIOS / Actual 1.80v = 1.857v --- 2.02v = 2.077v 1.82v = 1.877v --- 2.04v = 2.097v 1.84v = 1.897v --- 2.06v = 2.177v 1.86v = 1.917v --- 2.08v = 2.137v 1.88v = 1.937v --- 2.10v = 2.157v ---- BIOS / Actual 1.90v = 1.957v --- 2.12v = 2.177v ---- 2.24v = 2.297v (max spec. for my RAM) 1.92v = 1.977v --- 2.14v = 2.197v 1.94v = 1.997v --- 2.16v = 2.217v 1.96v = 2.017v --- 2.18v = 2.237v 1.98v = 2.037v --- 2.20v = 2.257v 2.00v = 2.057v --- 2.22v = 2.277v I even read one test somewhere, where the BIOS setting was .24v less than the actual voltage to the RAM which would drastically change the chart above, so I would recommend starting on the conservative side (like 1.86v). I would recommend starting your DRAM voltage testing at 1.86v and move up from there (if your RAM is 2.2v RAM like mine). To test your RAM accurately, there is a new version of MemTest86+ that recognizes the X38 chipset correctly. Download the ISO version of it here (http://www.memtest.org/#downiso). The DRAM timings may also need to be set manually. My RAM, running at 1066Mhz is spec’ed for 5-5-5-15 2T and 4-4-4-12 2T at 800Mhz. Make sure you run MemTest for at least 2-3 full cycles before you conclude that your RAM timings and voltage are set correctly (I have had the first test cycle come out fine, but the second pass started showing errors, so I had to change settings). If you can’t get the RAM to test well at the factory specs, try relaxing the timings a little (say 5-5-5-18 which I have seen some people have success with, then try tightening them up from there). You may want/need to relax some of the secondary timings as well. I read a post where the default secondary was 3-42-6-3 and what finally worked was 10-42-6-10 (which is quite relaxed). For OS installation, if you have 4 sticks of RAM like I do, I would recommend installing your OS with just two sticks of RAM. Once you have your OS installed, working, and stable; add the other two sticks of RAM. If you start getting system instability (and NOTHING else has changed) after adding the two additional sticks, you know where the problem is right away. Often you will need to increase your NorthBridge voltage if you use all 4 sticks of RAM. I would recommend taking the voltage up two steps and then test and move up from there if needed. Some reports I have read where people have set it to as much as 1.63v, but most seem to work at somewhere between 1.3v and 1.4v. Last, I'll look at RAID. I'm running two 500GB WD HD's using the built-in Intel Matrix RAID. I have had multiple, wierd crashes that have actually broken the RAID many times. It looks like this is also a RAM problem. I have more info. on RAID toward the end of this thread (when I actually got my board back from ASUS). Well, that’s it. I hope this is helpful to everyone and get’s your P5E working the way it is supposed to, esp. with 1066Mhz RAM! http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?...Language=en-us Ultima modifica di Kharonte85 : 29-02-2008 alle 20:32. |
