Everyone's favorite Slot Adapter Cooler just got better! Sure we may not be at peek demand for Slot Adapters like we were when the PIII FC-PGA processors first began rolling out but there are still thousands of Slot 1 board owners out there wanting a simple and inexpensive CPU upgrade. The remaining plethora of Slot 1 board owners should keep Alpha employed making PEP66 coolers for a long time to come. Overclockers owning the original PEP66 coolers have been trying to modify these bad boys to fit socket motherboards with some success. Though not originally designed for socket style board, the new PEP66 v2 has some nice changes that will make it compatible with SOME socket motherboards.

Yes, the PEP66's use is very limited. We all know it was originally intended for use on a slot adapter only, this is the reason for the side mounting fan. So without making major modifications such as moving the fan and cutting the shroud, we are pretty much stuck with using it with a slot adapter as it is too long for use on nearly all socket style motherboards. There are boards out there that have the room for a side mounting heatsink and fan but your options are very limited at best. Alpha has flattened the bottom of the new PEP66 and have made the little stabilizing feet optional. They have also increased the spring tension and modified the clips for use on AMD Duron and Thunderbird processors. All this just so us Overclockers can use the PEP66 on socket style motherboards. These new changes were needed but I want to be perfectly clear about one thing. If you want a heatsink for your socket style motherboard, purchase a heatsink that is designed for it! It makes no sense to spend the money on a PEP66 for socket motherboards when it is designed for slot adapters.
