When I recently purchased a GeForce2 GTS card, I paid through the nose for wanting the highest performance. Quake III really flies when paired with the card, but other games that can’t make use of hardware T&L didn’t get quite the performance boost I wanted. Fill rate was not the problem; it was obvious that my trusty Celeron 366 overclocked to 550 just didn’t cut it any more. I remember the glory days when the TNT and Celeron could rip through games of the Quake II generation, but now it was time to retire them into another computer (happy birthday Mum!)

A few minutes and an SSL encrypted payment transaction later I had the answer to my latest bottleneck sorted. The next day I reaped the benefits of my e-transaction in the form of an overnight delivery to my front door. After many minutes of watching quality daytime TV I was treated to a delivery at the door and a big parcel. I rushed up to my computer with the new hardware in hand and began the operation. The upgrade consisted of an Abit KX133 motherboard with an Athlon 650 (overclocked to 800) sitting on its Slot A throne. Later that morning I proceeded to close the patient up and revived it with an Althon-approved 300W power supply. Finally I could enjoy all my games at 1024 x 768 in excess of 60 FPS. 'Who could ask for more power than this' I chuckled to myself. Then I remembered a similar feeling about a year ago when I got my Celeron 366 @ 550 running with a Riva TNT
