was surprised by the good performance and close results achieved by most of the coolers. Many of the results are within a few degrees of each other. This would indicate that even though there is much hype about which individual heatsink/fan combination is the best, it is quite likely that many will perform within 1-2 degrees of each other.

Airflow is everything, use a higher rated fan, blow more air over the heatsink and your CPU will be cooler. In this case it means using the loud but strong Delta fan, the 6 best results were all from coolers using the 46dBA Delta fan. Unfortunately this fan is so noisy that many people find it hard to put up with, and if your CPU temperature will only increase 1 or 2 degrees then it hardly seems worth the effort.
