lentezza avvia ubuntu
sul portatile ho installato ubuntu 7.10 e xp home.. ma mentre xp ci mette circa un 20ina di secondi a fare il boot, ubuntu dopo averlo selezionato in grub rimane lo schermo nero per circa 2:45 (2 minuti e 45 secondi) prima di partire la schermata del login.. credo non sia normale

Credo che la soluzione sia ricompilandosi per bene il kernel in funzione delle proprie periferiche

ricompilare il kernel è sicuramente un'ottimo modo di velocizzare il sistema, ma credo che il problema sia risolvibile in maniera + "semplice"
magari inizia a postare il risultato del comando dmesg, tutto se possibile, e i log (li trovi in /var/logs). hai aggiornato ubuntu di recente? che kernel stai usando? (nella shell digita uname -r) |

allora.. il kernel è 2.6.22-15-generic riguardo gli aggiornamenti faccio tutti gli aggiornamenti che trova ogni volta che ne trova.. il risultato di dmesg lo scrivo ora di seguito, ma riguardo ai log.. nella cartella da te indicata ci sono molti files, alcuni senza estensione, alcuni con estensione .gz, alcuni con estensione .log .log.0 .log.1 .log.2 non saprei nè quali files prendere nè come postare tutti quei files

forse ti conviene provare hardy, la 8.04, ha ampliato il supporto hardware...
magari prima con synaptic attiva il repository backport (impostazioni, archivi dei pacchetti, in aggiornamenti spunti quelli non supportati con scritto gutsy-backports); ricarichi e provi a vedere se trovi un kernel + recente... ma quindi è un problema di hardware? ha problemi nel riconoscere l'hardware nel mio portatile, perciò questa lentezza? Reinstallare tutto sarà l'ultima spiaggia.. riguardo ai log, dove hai detto tu c'è tutto.. ma manca una funzione per esportare tutto, sono pagine e pagine di roba e non so come postarle..
riguardo synaptic come attivo il repository backport??? |

Scusa la domanda idiota, ma che portatile è??? Ti si vede la schermata di caricamento? cioè quella con scritto UBUNTU e la barra di progresso arancione sottostante??? Che scheda video hai?? hai provato a premere durante il boot di ubuntu i tasti ctrl+alt+f1 così facendo vedi cosa succede durante l'avvio e vedi se viene riportato qualche error, accorgersene è facile scrive ERROR o ERR dipende, comunque vedi così dove si pianta per 2 minuti e vediamo cosa è effettivamente. Io ad esempio ho un problema simile sia con ubuntu che con tutte le altre distro dovute al fatto che ho un hardisk un pò malconcio...

non lo so.. prima di morire pazzo ho deciso di installare l'ultima versione di ubuntu e poi vi farò sapere.. spero che venga riconosciuto tutto l'hardware, soprattutto la scheda wireless, perchè mi ricordo che l'altra volta c'ho dovuto smanettare un bel pò per fargliela riconoscere.. e senza connessione mi riesce difficile fare qualsiasi cosa (mi serve di scaricare altre applicazioni, etc.)

ok con l'ultima versione di ubuntu ci mette poco più di una 20ina di secondi per uscire la schermata di login.. tutto ok quindi.. una domanda però, perchè i menù sono mezzo in italiano e mezzo in inglese? Cioè.. in alto a sinistra ho le tre voci "Applications", "Places", "System" però le sottovoci sono tutte in italiano.. come posso mettere tutto in italiano? sono andato in Sistema -> Amministrazione -> Supporto Lingue dove mi dice Supported Languages e c'è solo Inglese, più sotto Default Language e c'è Italiano..

come ho già detto, sotto supported languages c'è solo inglese, sotto default language c'è anche italiano.. ma non cambia nulla.. molte cose sono inglese in questo modo.. forse ci vuole la connessione a internet per scaricare altri files??
