ALi president Chin Wu said that they remain somewhat conservative about the prospects for the P4 platform becoming the mainstream product by year-end. Wu indicated that the P4 sector is still a fledgling marketplace at the moment, so ALi has not really worried about its volume production beginning a little later than its rivals. He added that Intel’s own chipsets are expected to claim about 50% of the Pentium 4 segment, and the fight for market share will truly begin when more products hit the market next year. Given this, ALi does not intend to include the sales of it P4 chipsets in the company’s 2001 revenues.
