DNA test is for sake of the kids

THE gran of 13-year-old Alfie Patten’s baby said yesterday as social workers stumped up for the lad to get a DNA test: “The sooner the better.”

Girlfriend Chantelle Steadman’s relieved mum Penny declared amid claims her daughter slept with other boys: “Social services agreed to do it for the sake of the children.

“The sooner it’s done the sooner Chantelle and Alfie can get on with being parents.”

She insisted the test would prove the babyfaced schoolboy — who looks no older than eight — is the father of one-week-old Maisie.

Yesterday East Sussex council’s director of children’s services Matt Dunkley admitted there were “exceptional circumstances” as the case was given priority.

He vowed: “Social workers and health visitors will be visiting both families again to carry out further detailed assessments of Alfie, Chantelle and baby Maisie.”

Gossip

Mum-of-six Penny, 38, insisted that until the DNA results came through she and 15-year-old Chantelle would remain with Maisie at the hideaway where they have fled to escape the cruel gossip.

She said: “We don’t want to go back until Chantelle feels she can take the baby out in its pram without people shouting things at her.”

She and Chantelle’s dad Steve begged social workers for help after two boys aged 16 and 14, who also live on the Old Town estate in Eastbourne, claimed they fathered Maisie.

Up to SIX others have made similar claims — despite Chantelle insisting: “Alfie’s the only boy I’ve been with.”

Social services had previously rejected the £300 test.

Alfie — just 12 when Maisie was conceived — is positive he is the father.

Mum Nicola looked strained as she left their home in nearby Hailsham yesterday after a florist arrived with a bouquet.

Alfie and Chantelle have vowed to be good parents — and last night The Sun took action to help them.

We brought in parenting experts Raise A Child, who said: “We can give them step-by-step advice on successful parenting.

“This includes all aspects like the child’s general welfare, health and development.”

Parents not told Alfie was dad-to-be

THE parents of Alfie and Chantelle have blasted a family doctor who failed to tell them for six weeks that the 13-year-old was going to be a dad.

Chantelle, 15, only told her mum she was pregnant after 18 weeks.

But the GP confirmed it to her at 12 weeks — leaving the teenagers to face the prospect of parenthood alone for six weeks.

Chantelle said the pair had been too frightened to tell anyone about it.

Her mum Penny said: “They are children. I should have been told.

“When I heard she was on the Pill I was furious.”

Alfie’s dad Dennis said: “The doctor should have told an adult.

“It should be legal that a child’s parents are informed.

“The doctor probably couldn’t because of patient

East Sussex Downs and Weald Primary Care Trust refused to comment.

Yesterday it emerged Alfie’s mum Nicola Patten, 43, is due before Eastbourne magistrates next week for failing to make him go to school.

BABY-FACED dad Alfie Patten today wore a personalised hoodie bearing the words "I'm the daddy, if not f**k you all I'll still be there".

The 13-year-old emerged with the defiant message after several other young teens came forward claiming they could also be the father of his little daughter Maisie.

It follows The Sun exclusively revealing his story last week.

A paternity test is now expected to take place after girlfriend and mother of his child Chantelle Steadman denied sleeping with anyone other than Alfie.
