Boinc su Ubuntu: errore "attach to project"

Ciao a tutti,

Da oggi ho voluto passare da winzozz a Ubuntu, installando ovviamente boinc per contribuire. Sono andato su Applicazioni->Aggiungi/Rimuovi e ho selezionato boinc manager. Mi sono insospettito perchè le icone sono quelle vecchie (la b gialla circondata da un cerchio blu). Infatti mi sono scaricato la 5.10.8. ma non è questo il problema. Aperto boinc, ho cliccato su attach to project e mi è venuto questo errore:

BOINC Manager is not currently connected to a BOINC client.
Please use the 'Advanced\Select Computer...' menu option to connect up to a BOINC client.
To connect up to your local computer please use 'localhost' as the host name.

Allora io sono andato su select computer e ho scritto localhost come c'era scritto nell'avviso ma niente, mi dice che non riesce a connettersi. Ho provato a mettere localhost più la password di root ma ancora niente. Che devo fare?

p.s. ho ubuntu 7.10

Ok ho risolto facendo:

sudo apt-get install boinc-client

Comunque come faccio per far partire boinc ad ogni avvio di ubuntu?

Sul forum di Ubuntu c'è un thread dedicato a Boinc.
Di primo acchito, ti posso dire che a me non è capitato un pasticcio del genere e consigliare di reinstallare tutti i pacchetti con Synaptic, ma può darsi che altri abbiano risolto.
In ogni caso, non mi pare proprio saggio tenere la password di root a disposizione dl Boinc.

Da console è più veloce.

sudo apt-get install boinc-app-seti boinc-client boinc-dbg boinc-dev boinc-manager kboincspy kboincspy-dev libcurl3 libcurl3-gnutls libcurl3-dbg libssl0.9.8-dbg libwxgtk2.6-dbg libc6dbg

Per rendertene conto, in console digita top.

C'era un piccolo errore di battitura.

Con il pacchetto debian, boinc parte in automatico.
Controlla in /etc/init.d dovresti avere un file boinc.

Per non far partire in automatico Boinc, ho visto che basta anche modificare il file /etc/default/boinc-client.
Forse sarebbe meglio editare entrambi i file?
Sono passati soltanto pochi giorni da quando uso Boinc su Linux, si capisce, vero?

Meglio editare il file su /etc/default.
Su /etc/init.d si trova lo script ed è meglio non toccarlo per non fare danni...

Fai te, se lo scarichi è un guazzabuglio di roba senza ne capo ne coda.

Vedi di copiare la roba in modo ordinato

Se lo apri con un editor unix lo leggi correttamente...

A me sembra che il mio Boinc, pur non avendone toccati i file di configurazione, abbia qualche problema.

Ho inserito un allegato, perché il menù a tendina mi è parso troppo lungo.

Fra le altre cose, si vede che c'è Predictor che non risponde in questo momento, però non credo che dipenda dal programma.

L'unica cosa che noto di strano è che le WU di rosetta vanno in errore, per gli altri progetti sembra tutto ok. Probabilmente il problema è dovuto al client beta di rosetta 585 che non è molto stabile. Controlla sul sito quale client è stato usato per le WU andate in errore, nel caso puoi segnalare la cosa nella board del progetto, così che gli sviluppatori possano controllare e nel caso fixare il problema.
Ho visto anche che hai settato le preferenze dal client BOINC

ma questo non dovrebbe creare problemi.

Facendo una ricerca nel forum (Linux), è difatti possibile incontrare molte informazioni interessanti.
La mia intenzione era quella di enucleare in modo ordinato alcuni punti utili a chi volesse provare a usare Boinc per Linux.

Il mio client di Boinc è, come dice il LOG, 5.10.8 for x86_64-pc-linux-gnu, quello scaricabile da repositories ufficiali di Ubuntu 7.10.

Personalmente ritengo ci sia davvero poco da configurare.

Su una distro come Ubuntu è sufficiente installare i pacchetti boinc-client e boinc-manager. Poi è sufficiente usare il boincmanager per agganciare i progetti e modificare eventuali preferenze.

Più semplice di così, non si puo' fare...
