Il Raptor, essendo un disco neonato, è ovvio che ha subito modifiche in tempi molto brevi
Per il resto, a parte qualche incidente di percorso avvenuto nel passato (non WD comunque), non mi risulta che ci siano differenze sostanziali da un firmware all'altro Le modifiche di firmware possono essere semplici modifiche dell'algoritmo di gestione degli spostamenti della testina o magari semplificazioni del chipset di controllo Riguardo le varie serie di solito le differenze riguardano il campo di utilizzo (e relativo carico di lavoro) a cui preferibilmente sono destinati i dischi (home o server, per esempio) L'utente ignaro che compra un disco, alla fine un disco lo compra, ci gioca o ci lavora ed è contento L'utente che va a spulciare anche i firmware, rischia di perdere tanto di quel tempo che, quando si decide, compra un " disco vecchio" |

But now, G seems quite commonplace and I've even seen R. Has anyone kept track of what G and later letters represent? WD2000JB-00KFA0 WD2500JB-00KFA0 WD3000JB-00KFA0 ...originating from WD3200JB-00KFA0 This example provided is just very interesting because of the WD 160/200/250 hdd's were normally based on 80GB platters (and there are many such sub-code models existing if you look in the long table I posted above in this topic). Now looks like some production runs of them may have 107...125GB platters inside, so there can be big performance differences between sub-models in 160/200/250 GB categories! These 00KLB0/00KFA0 models of 200GB (or even 250GB) may have only 2 platters! But it may be also otherwise - these sub-models can be outlet for partially failed WD3200's which are reformatted to lower capacity (but even then they have HD platters and so also better performance)! So here is the WD's brand new drive model number system deciphering but... unfortunately without the most interesting suffix part of! But there's indication that the suffix is described in WD's in-house use document 2096-000101 (may be 2096-000101.pdf). Some more secret details cleared now. Although your table seems to be a more older revision, we could now get the best summary by putting my latest edition (and pre-latest edition for drives released before 12/2005) plus your information together... Still, there's some things remained open: - That most interesting part of the subcode (Family ID deciphering, two letters after Customer ID); - The following customer ID's: 07,08,14,41,50,55,56,57,58,88,98 - For Customer Configuration Code there's some mismatching, in example I have noticed the B0 has recently been not "model for specific resellers" but just "first high-quality sample - SATA version". Generally, WD's model code system is pretty mess and they have changed it too, which makes that even more confusing. Non è bello spendere 200 euri per un Raptor Wd740GD e poi scoprire che è uscita la versione successiva che è NCQ ed ha 16 mega di buffer....alla stessa cifra!!
