kernel panic - not syncing, attempted to kill init

Ciao, qualche mese fa quando ho cambiato hd ho copiato la vecchia partizione di linux su una nuova semplicemente con un cp -ax, tutto é andato ok, ho solo dovuto sistemare fstab e rilanciare /sbin/lilo.
Lilo.conf non ha avuto bisogno di essere toccato perché hda7 nel vecchio hd era la root, e pure nel nuovo. Fstab l'ho dovuto editare solo x le altre partizioni ntfs che erano cambiate nel frattempo.

Qualche giorno fa ho fatto un'altra partizione primaria, allo scopo di metterci su il mio linux. Tale partizione é hda3 (non so perché sia stato saltata hda2, non me la fa montare eppure esiste: hda1 é ovviamente win), ho copiato con il solito cp -ax da hda7 a hda3, editato opportunamente fstab, mtab e lilo.conf, rilanciato /sbin/lilo, ma all'avvio di linux da hda3 ottengo sti errori:

mounting /dev/root
mount: no such device
device or resource busy
kernel panic - not syncing, attempted to kill init

Idee?

no, normalissimo pata

Prima di fare tutto questo avevo fatto una partizione fra la hda6 e hda7, spostando l'hda7 ad hda8 che era diventata root. Stesso problema!
Infatti eliminando la partizione intermedia e facendo si che hda7 tornasse root é tornato tutto a posto
