prima di riavviare e cambiare scheda metti il modulo vesa per avere il supporto minimale e poi dopo il riavvio installi quelli di ATI

Non esageriamo. Dipende da come hai configurato il kernel e dal fatto se ti servono dei driver esterni (schede video, wifi, etc.). Cmq anche se hai compilato il kernel solo per il tuo hw, è facilmente risolvibile.

Con i kernel debian non ho mai avuto problemi nel riavviare una macchina dopo aver fatto, per esempio, il cambio di scheda madre e processore.

Appunto, con i precompilati puoi farlo, ma se la periferica richiede dei driver esterni, o hai compilato il kernel solo per l'hw che avevi, riavviare non è sufficente.
