Come prestazioni non cambia niente, rispetto all'ATA 100 e 133, ma liberi un canale EIDE e non hai problemi di ponticelli master/slave. Inoltre gli HD IDE sono penalizzati quando sullo stesso canale c'è un unità CD o DVD.
I cavi SATA sono più robusti dei cavi IDE e molto più maneggevoli.
