DNP How to set up your Raspberry Pi to play Atari 2600 games

So after your brain hurts a bit and you're tired of learning computer science on the Raspberry Pi, you might want to relax with a bit of nostalgia and exercise your thumbs with some retro gaming. Want to revisit your childhood memories of Pong? Ping away. Maybe your kids have been hounding you for a video game console but you don't have the $300 to spring for a PS3. The Pi can help you with this and help teach your kids something, to boot. After some slight software configurations and a hardware purchase or two, you can relive the days of the almighty Atari 2600. Catch us after the break and we'll show you how to get your Pi to play all your totally legal cartridge backups.
Configuring your Pi to play video games

Getting your Raspberry Pi to play Pong is actually quite simple. Through a quick set of commands and a few configuration steps, you'll be vaulted back in time and playing Atari on your tube. With that said, let's get to blastin' Asteroids!
What you need to get started, hardware-wise

You'll obviously need a few things to get your Atari 2600 nostalgia rockin' and rollin' so here's a list of hardware items to have:

A fully configured Raspberry Pi Model B Board with the latest Raspbian image installed. The Pi should be connected to a monitor or television. You can follow the setup guide here if you have issues with this.
An available USB port on your Pi if you plan to use a USB gamepad. Usually, this means you'll need a USB hub. (Note: you can also use a keyboard.)

Lastly, as a reference point, here's what we used to get our own setup up and running:

Raspberry Pi Model B with the latest Raspbian image.
Logitech K260 wireless keyboard and mouse combo (read: it only uses one USB port, since the two share a dongle).
40-inch Samsung TV.
An old Logitech Precision USB gamepad we had lying around.
Bose surround sound speakers.

So, once you've rounded up your gear and have your Pi set up like so, let's get it configured. Also, while you're doing this, we recommend adding the song "2600 Refugee" by the Super 8 Bit Brothers to your playlist for some inspiration.

Ciao, no a me non capita, il mio hub non riporta la sua alimentazione al raspberry e la cosa non è ne regolare ne consigliata, quindi dovresti o modificare l'hub e non far riportare l'alimentazione a monte o cambiare l'hub.

This feature was implemented on some later revision 1.0 PCBs by replacing the fuses with links; revision 2.0 permanently implements this modification. It is now possible to reliably power the RPI from a USB hub that back feeds power, but it is important that the chosen hub cannot supply more than 2.5A under fault conditions.

la navigazione tra i menù mi sembra molto fluida, i freeze sono forse dovuti al fatto che stava anche riproducendo un video in background? magari prova a disabilitarlo e a mettere una immagine di sfondo fissa.

Bhè devo dire che come mediaplayer sembra cavarsela veramente bene considerando il prezzo. Hai provato a mandare avanti qualche film/telefilm e vedere se si blocca come diceva un'altro utente di questo forum?

Sì: non si è bloccato.
Forse perchè il video non è in altissima risoluzione.
Dopo che lo porti avanti si vedrà male per pochi secondi, massimo 5, per poi stabilizzarsi

Boh se hai il raspberry v2.0 (o anche alcune delle ultime 1.0 costruite) ed un hub con alimentazione passante anche sul cavo dati verso raspberry, dicono che si può fare e così risparmiare un cavo di alimentazione.

Però dicono anche che non ci sono più i fusibili di protezione e che l'Hub deve essere di qualità e non permettere di far assorbire più di 2.5A da quella linea.
Perché se l'hub erogasse di più ed il raspberry per qualche motivo richiedesse troppa corrente si brucierebbe qualcosa (magari rendendo inservibile l'intero raspberry pi) proprio per la mancanza di protezione.

sarebbe meglio isolare la linea di alimentazione verso il PI intervenendo sul piedino dell'hub o dotarsi di un hub che non porti corrente.

Si, io per esempio uso un hub cinese a 4 porte NON alimentando con attaccato una chiavetta usb della tastiera wireless e una chiavetta usb Wi-Fi che sto testando.
Tutte e 2 mi vengono rilevate dal s.o.

L'hub è praticamente obbligatorio se no non puoi collegarci nulla

Ho ordinato da Farnell da qualche giorno e ho ricevuto una mail con un codice, a che serve?

Una domanda se spediscono ricevo qualche mail? magari con traking? o mi ritrovo semplicemente il corriere da un gg ad un altro?

Ti mandano una email appena spediscono, il codice che hai ricevuto è il numero d'ordine. Il raspberry ti arriva per posta, nessun corriere
