Microsoft DirectX DirectShow QuickTime Video Remote Code Execution Vulnerability

Security Focus riporta un bollettino di sicurezza (Bugtraq ID 35139) in cui si spiega che è stata trovata una vulnerabilità in Microsoft DirectX che esporrebbe ad attacchi di tipo remote code-execution. Questo dipende dal fatto che un suo componente (DirectShow) non riesce a processare in maniera corretta i file media di QuickTime.

Lo sfruttamento con successo di questa falla permetterebbe, ad un attacker da remoto, di far eseguire codice arbitrario malevolo nel contesto del livello di privilegi in cui l'applicazione è avviata in quel momento che usa il DirectX. Il fallimento porterebbe ad una condizione di negazione del servizio (DoS) al legittimo user.
