Ubuntu 7.10: non funziona il monitor!

Ciao a tutti!
Mi sono appena iscritto al Forum... ed ho installato Linux Ubuntu 7.10, l'ultima versione uscita.
Ho un monitor LG L1960TQ e una scheda video Matrox G550. Uso con Windows normalmente il cavo DVI che era in dotazione con il monitor, la qualità è migliore rispetto al VGA.
Con Linux, però, subito dopo il boot del sistema operativo, il monitor segnala "Digitale: fuori campo 29,5 - 31 Hz".
Sembra che la scheda video gli invii un segnale con le frequenze sbagliate. Ma come è possibile?
Ovviamente con il cavo analogico non ci sono problemi, ma non posso ogni volta fare a cambio, desidererei che il cavo digitale funzionasse.
Esiste un driver per Linux per il mio monitor? Non l'ho trovato nell'elenco nell'interfaccia di configurazione, ho inserito "LG L1730P(Digital)", il più simile che ho visto.
Dicevano che questa versione di Ubuntu sarebbe stata più flessibile e semplice da configurare, ma come posso usarla senza monitor?
Accodo il file xorg.conf.

hai provato nella sessione "device" di xorg.conf ad inserire come driver "vesa"?

Ti ringrazio innanzitutto per il consiglio.
Ho provato ma purtroppo ci sono ancora dei problemi.
Ho sostituito "vesa" a "mga" dove mi hai indicato, producendo il codice che ti allego alla fine.
L'ho sostituito anche più avanti, nelle sezioni "device" (con identificatori device1 e device2 alla voce "Driver").
Il risultato è una schermata con tutti puntini bianchi e grigi, forse delle scritte al centro ma incomprensibili. L'area è più grande dello schermo, tanto che spostandosi col mouse agli estremi si vede che scorre. Non si vede un vero e proprio cursore, ma una linea orizzontale di pixel che si muove.
Ho provato, per scrupolo, anche a fare la prova lasciando "mga" per device1 e device2 (quelle in fondo), con "vesa" nella sezione "Device" (quella quasi all'inizio), ma il risultato è lo stesso.
C'è da modificare qualcos'altro?

qual'è la risoluzione del tuo schermo in pixel?

La risoluzione massima è 1280 x 1024. Su Windows lo tengo così e si vede benissimo... il monitor funziona con questa risoluzione. Come possiamo fare per Linux?

Ho fatto come hai detto, per sicurezza ti accodo il "nuovo" codice alla fine.
Purtroppo il risultato è lo stesso. Guardando meglio, sembra che lo schermo sia frammentato in tante righe orizzontali disordinate, e che i pixel ci siano tutti, ma disposti in modo caotico: ecco perché non si legge né capisce cosa c'è visualizzato.

Su Windows lo tengo così e si vede benissimo... il monitor funziona con questa risoluzione. Come possiamo fare per Linux? Davide Ultima modifica di linux_net : 05-01-2008 alle 11:36. Motivo: la risposta poteva essere ambigua e indicare che funziona anche su Linux, ma in realtà non è così!
