Our friends have gotten some information of the upcoming NVIDIA G80 and it appears that G80 gonna be unified shader after all. It should be pretty close to the truth and it explained the mystery of the strange DRAM capacities that INQ reported previously. Expect G80 to be out somewhere in mid November along with Kentsfield.

se davvero la skeda avrà queste caratteristiche sarà un vero e proprio mostro....
mi sembra un po strana sta cosa dei 384bit e 768Mega....sarebbe la prima skeda ad andare oltre i 256Bit(apparte la 7950GX2)

Certo, come il bus da 384bit
Diciamo che da corda al rumor di The Inquirer che vedeva G80 come ibrido, mezzo Dx9 e mezzo Dx 10. Quei transistor sono un numero sparato a casaccio tanto per adre l'idea di un core grosso. E la somma del bus lascia intendere una gpu che funziona a 256bit e una a 128bit. Così come la ram.

Per quanto riguarda i transistor la cifra dovrebbe essere intorno ai 500 ml.

le caratteristiche nel primo thread mi sembrano palesemente inventate 700M transistor core a 1.5ghz shader unificati mah.....direi di aspettare qualche indiscrezione più affidabile per intavolare una discussione...

....forse pero' non e' del tutto una bufala...
leggendo nei forum stranieri e' evidenziato che molto probabilmente la g80 sara' una dual core e che quindi tutto va diviso per 2!
Piuttosto sara' da vedere se una parte e' dedicata alla grafica normale e l'altra alla fisica o se il secondo bus e' utilizzato solo come buffer/setup per le nuove AA...

personalmente quei dati che vorrebbero dire che la gpu avrà 700 milioni di transistor sono tutte sparate senza senso.
Ricordo che già le GPU sono dei processori multicore quello della gpu dual core non è vero anche quello.
Al massimo potrebbero fare una versione con G80 come la 7950GX2 ma forse solo quando scenderanno al processo produttivo a 65 nm.
Sicuramente G80 avrà oltre 400 milioni di transistor e scaldera di più persino della 7950GX2 e si parla che dovrebbe essere fatto a 90 nm.

The GeForce 8 Series, or G80, will be the eighth generation of NVIDIA's GeForce graphics cards. Little was known about this series until an official announcement from NVIDIA.


Rumors

* The G80 is expected to be released anywhere from November to December of 2006.

* It will be the first Direct3D 10 and Shader Model 4.0 card to be released.

* There will be 2 cards released at launch, the flagship 8800GTX and the slightly slower 8800GT.

* The 8800GTX will have 768 MB of ram while the 8800GT will have 384 MB of RAM and will also have slower core and memory clock speeds, and possibly fewer pipelines, than the 8800GTX.

* The launch price of the 8800GTX will be $649 while the 8800GT will initially cost $449-499.

* Following the introduction of the flagship 8800 range, NVIDIA will introduce cheaper, slower versions of the card with one or more of the following reductions in capability: (a) reduced core clock speed; (b) reduced memory clock speed; (c) reduced memory bus width; (d) reduced pipeline count; (e) reduced chip count (if the 8800 is, in fact, a dual chip part); and / or (f) reduced complement of memory. If previous NVIDIA naming convention is followed, mid-range products will be identified by model number 8600, and low-end parts will be named 8200/8300.

* The G80 has most recently been claimed to be based on a unified shader architecture, with shading performance of 2x pixel and 12x vertex above G71. Somewhat contrarily, it has also been recently described as having separate or hybrid pipelines for DX9 and DX10, and possibly separate cores.

* The G80 die will be large - 20x20 mm, with nearly 700 million transistors.

* The memory interface is said to be Samsung's new GDDR4 specification. The 8800GTX will have a 384-bit memory interface, and the 8800GT's will be 320-bit.

* The series is also rumored to have fast memory and core clocks (with the core scaling up to 1.5GHz on a future process), but will still be built on 90nm technology to avoid unnecessary risks. Core clocks are estimated to be in the 700 to 850 MHz range upon initial release.

* Anandtech reports that the next generation of GPUs will range in power consumption from 130W to 300W. This increase in power consumption will make for higher-wattage Power Supply Units (in the 800 to 1100 Watt range) and/or the addition of internal, secondary PSUs solely for powering the GPUs.

* The 8800GTX's cooler will be a hybrid water/fan design. The 8800GT will use a traditional fan cooler.

* The G80 should also feature HDMI, or possibly UDI, connections with full HDCP support.

* The G80 will have a new antialiasing mode known as VCAA.
