Ovviamente funzionano sia con le ati che con nvidia, per ora ecco i primi bench con le 6800

Alienware moves to clear up consumer confusion; releases 6800 benchmark results.
In response to a recent unauthorized leak, Alienware today released its first 3DMark03 benchmark performance numbers from a test system running its new "Video Array" dual-video card technology first introduced at this year's E3.

The document released to press lists 3DMark03 benchmark results comparing an Alienware 3.4GHz Intel Xeon test system running two GeForce 6800 video cards against the same system with only a single GeForce 6800 video card. The released document, a presentation slide dated from June 8th, includes 3DMark results taken from two settings: 1600x1200 with 8xAA (anti-aliasing) and 8xAF (anisotropic filtering), and 1600x1200 with only 8xAF.

The Video Array enabled dual-GeForce 6800 system outperformed the single video card system by a significant amount, outperforming the single card solution by almost 77 percent, scoring 3,105 3DMarks compared to1,758 3DMarks at 1600x1200, 8xAA, 8xAF. In the 1600x1200, 8xAF test, the dual-video card solution showed a 42 percent improvement, scoring 8,538 against the single card system's 5,992.

Alienware plans to release the first Video Array enabled ALX systems at the end of Q3 or the beginning of Q4 of this year, with prices starting over $5,000.

The new system will debut under Alienware’s new ALX, “Alienware Luxury Experience” line of high-performance PC systems.

Almost three years ago, back in 2001, Alienware started work on producing an AGP dual video card system. The company developed a working prototype in 2003 but decided to update the technology to support the upcoming PCI Express interface since video cards will switch over from AGP to the new PCI-E interface later this year. Alienware demonstrated the fruits of its labor at E3, where CEO Nelson Gonzales and CTO Humberto Organvidez demonstrated an alpha test system running two PCI-E Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra graphics cards.

Reminiscent of 3dfx’s Voodoo2 scan-line interleave (SLI) technology, Alienware’s “Video Array” technology allows two video cards to work together while running a game. Unlike 3dfx’s SLI, where the two video cards shared the workload by drawing alternating lines on the screen, the video cards in Alienware’s Video Array split the screen in two, with one card working on the top half and the second card working on the bottom. Load balancing software ensures that the workload is evenly split between the two cards in cases where graphics complexity in one half of the screen is greater than the other. Alienware isn’t ready to release benchmark numbers since the hardware is still in alpha, but the company expects a “50-percent-plus performance gain over traditional graphics solutions” when the system is ready for release.

Alienware’s Video Array technology will make its debut in a specially designed Alienware X2 motherboard. Manufactured by motherboard company Iwill Corporation, the X2 will feature dual PCI Express graphics ports, compatible with both Nvidia and ATI hardware, and will also have support for dual next-generation Intel Xeon processors and up to 8GB of DDR2 ECC memory. Alienware currently has no plans to license its technology to third-party manufacturers, and the X2 motherboard will not be available for purchase as a single component. The only way to get your hands on an X2 system will be to purchase a fully loaded X2 Alienware ALX PC.

Alienware's new ALX line of systems will be the first to feature X2 based systems. Unique features of the new ALX line include factory overclocked hardware; personal one-on-one attention from sales, support, and manufacturing; factory tours; games preinstalled, tweaked, and tested; aluminum briefcase; chrome-plated WASD keyboard keys; 24/7 tech support; and discounts on system upgrades.

ALX systems will also feature an “ultraquiet water-cooling solution.” The system we saw had water-cooling blocks for both CPUs and both video cards. Since the power requirements for a dual-CPU, dual-GPU system will be very high, expect X2 based ALX systems to ship with a massive power supply in the 800W range. Initial ALX systems available this June will be single-CPU, single-video-card solutions, but Alienware expects to offer X2-based systems in Q3 or Q4 of this year, with pricing yet to be determined





Verissimo che è un sistema estremamente high end e che 5000$ sono quasi una workstation professionale, però "sognare" non costa nulla... ( il case che ho visto di persona, supera anche gli apple in fatto di design.. splendido sul serio)

si ecco, va bene che hanno messo assieme un sistemone, ma fare un test con le impostazioni di default per renderlo confrontabile col resto del mondo ? è troppo difficile arrivarci?

A 1024x768 probabilmente il sistema sarebbe stato CPU Limited (cioè, ok per un P4 ma 2 Xeon!!!) visto il boost prestazionale attivando l'AA 8X (da +42% a 77%). Continuando a calare in risoluzione questo gap si assottiglia, rendendo inutile una soluzione del genere.
Fate conto che a 1600x1200 senza AA (ma con AF!) distrugge praticamente qualsiasi 9800XT o FX5950 Ultra a 1024x768!!

La mobo A8V deluxe è monoprocessore, giusto?
Le schede video sono 2, ma non mi sembra che siano 2 anche le mobo+cpu+ram.... O sbaglio?

Si! E' lo sai cosè che non mi piace? Proprio questa eccessiva potenza che non serve proprio a nulla...che poi al prossimo giro sarà facilmente superata da 1 singola scheda di prox generazione. Ci lamentiamo tanto che 1 singola nostra scheda non è sfruttata, che non ci sono giochi che utilizzano le nuove peculiarità,ecc. A che minchia servono ste soluzioni? A fare lo sborone davanti al pc dalla mattina alla sera col 3d mark?
Ci si lamenta poi del consumo. Ci si lamenta che le schede video consumano troppo, che il "progresso" sta nel cercare di consumare il meno possibile non rinunciando di incrementare drasticamente la potenza e poi si arrivano a queste soluzioni? Qua si che si rischia di ritrovarsi una bolletta con i contro caxxi tra l'altro.
Per di più non mi piacciono nemmeno quei PC visti come delle autentiche macchine da gioco...che sono "pensate" per il gioco.
