se non ricordo male, in lost+found viene salvato quello che fsck (che viene eseguito al boot se alla sessione precedente il sistema ha subito un crash o non è comunque passato attraverso uno shutdown regolare - ad es a causa di un blackout) è riuscito a recuperare (non è detto i file siano completi, AFAIK soprattutto su filesystem privi di journaling)

Ho notato che in partizioni ext2 (non so se anche in ext3), questa cartella c'è di default. Cioè, appena formattato, questa cartella esiste già.
