Overclock cpu Socket A

The following picture, diagram, settings tables and text illustrate how the AMD Socket A Duron and Thunderbird can be overclocked without hardware or software support from the motherboard.

Project is a detailed continuation of the original ingenious thinking of Armand Hirt, who discovered a correlation between the open/closed patterns of sets of L6 and L7 "bridges" on top of the chips, and the patterns of FSB Multiplier ID and Vcore HI/LO settings in AMD cpu datasheets.

This page covers FID Multiplier ID signals to the system and VID signals to the voltage regulator module. BP_FID signals to the FSB Multiplier are covered in next page. And please note that both FID and BP_FID settings must match, else in all probability the system will not boot, just as the Athlon Classic did not.

And before we begin, like to speculate on the probability of these chips actually being "clock locked" with nothing the mobo can do about it. Believe so, as long as the BP_FID FSB Multiplier circuits are completely self contained on the chip itself with no communication to the system/bios. FID Multiplier ID signals are communicated to the system, providing oppoprtunity for the system to manipulate them in some fashion. But recall that the Athlon Classic would not boot unless both FID and BP_FID settings on the GFDs matched. So if mobos can't affect the BP_FID settings, they can't match any oc'd FID settings, so can't oc the chips. On to the L6, L7 pic......
