Ma io dico... Suse sono N versione che si sbatte sopra un sistema di installazione peggiore di apt... ma visto che il codice è bello perchè è aperto, ma non potrebbero passare ad apt e lasciare che la parte grafica in yast sia solo una sua gui?
Secondo me risparmierebbero parecchia fatica che migliorerebbero in modo sensibile il sistema.

Oh, eccoci qui, l'incrocio del destino!
Ti spiego: quello che hai appena detto, lo penso anche io e non capisco come non ci arrivino quello che producono queste distribuzioni. Cioé: ora che sto usando Debian mi rendo conto del tempo perso su Mandrake e SuSE (si fa per dire), visto che con apt è più rapido (e con Synaptic anche più facile) installare, disinstallare e aggiornare. Ma allora dico: perchè le distribuzioni perdono tempo nel differenziarsi dalle altre invece di coalizzarsi e puntare tutte al meglio? Che non dovrebbe necessariamente essere un unico standard, ma quasi. Facevo lo stesso discorso sul riconoscimento hardware in un altro thread: se Knoppix ha già i suoi moduli e le sue belle cosine per rilevare l'hardware quasi perfettamente, a che serve una distribuzione (tra quelle più tendenti al mondo desktop, intendo) che magari non lo fa o lo fa maluccio o diversamente? A perderci tempo? Lo stesso dicasi dei gestori di pacchetti: se ce n'è uno che va bene e altri che vanno meno bene, a che serve svilupparne di diversi? Usate quello che funziona!
Ovviamente questo si estende a tutte le funzioni di una macchina desktop (perchè capisco che ci siano esigenze differenti in ambito server o comunque dedicato). Ci vorrebbe così poco a creare una distro seria e solida ma facilissima, che soddisfi lo smanettone e aiuti l'esordiente senza pregiudicare la configurabilità del sistema. Certe volte mi vengono i nervi a vedere come divergono sempre più tra di loro le ditribuzioni: è come per il PAL e il NTSC. Andrebbe lapidato l'imbecille che ha detto "si, due formati diversi, teniamoli così, è inutile crearne uno migliore e universale". Succede lo stesso con il software: tutti a fare la stessa cosa in cento modi diversi, sprecando tempo ed energia. Non che la ricerca sia sbagliata, ma c'è modo e modo di portarla avanti.

Tra l'altro se integrassero APT il modulo grafico di yast che cura l'installazione di pacchetti potrebbe essere una gui di apt....
Invece di usare synaptic... che, tengo a precisarlo, odio abbastanza...

Server SUSE li ho mantati anche io...(ho cominciato così) da quando uso Debian lo consiglio a tutti, se devi farci un server mettici la "Sarge" che è la versione stabile, comunque con Debian a parte la velocità di reazione del computer che rispetto a Suse è notevolmente più veloce ti accorgi vermanete di come si usa Linux, scordati Yast e preparati ad usare un editor di testo per aprire i .conf.

In ultimo, ma non meno importante in rete ci sono un enormità di guide e tutorial per Debian che rendono questa Distro facile da usare.

Non ha caso i server di HWUpgrade sono tutti Debian...ci sarà un motivo...

Ok, ho messo debian, pensavo peggio. Effettivamente a girare cosi nel sistema e su internet è molto più veloce. Ora qui vediamo di installare emule, poi apro un'altra discussione perchè non riesco a impostare il monitor a 1280 X 1024.. solo 640 X 480 o 800 X 600

La scgeda video è una TNT2 e il monitor è un Samsung SyncMaster 173P.. ho il cd di installazione del monitor dove la Suse mi aveva trovato i driver..

Poi io ti consiglio di compilare questo tarball invece del solito rpm da installare:

L'rpm è comodo ma alle volte da problemi di dipendenza anche quando le librerie ci sono oppure richiede maggiori dipendenze di un targz.... Almeno questa è la mia esperienza personale con aMule.

make install deve essere dato come utente root...
Quindi per compilare un pacchetto devi fare (generalmente):

./configure
make
su
>inserisci password root<
make install

fammi sapere se era questo il problema (non ho visto altro).....
