Allora, ovivamente come avivo ho provato sia "linux" che linux-nonfb ma il problema è identico!

Quando mi dici di scegliere come frequenze un qualcosa di intermedio devo inserire un solo valore x quella oriz e un altro per quella vert? Intendo dire, nella scelta mi da per esempio:

> freq oriz: 31.5 - 35 (o qualcosa del genere.. al posto di questi valore devo metterne uno solo? O un range? Va bene se metto per esempio 33? O devo mettere per esempio 33 - 34))

> freq vert: stesso discorso, di default mi da un range (per esempio 50-80, va bene se metto solo 75 per esempio o devo mettere un range tipo 70-80?).
Ti chiedo questo perchè ora non ricordo + bene come ho fatto però avevo notato che durante l'avvio di X mi diceva in qualche punto "trovato monitor ma con una configurazione non usabile..."

Per il resto ho fatot altre prove:

Però usando il comando "grep error (EE)" e "grep warning (WW)" sul log XFree86 oppure su quello in /etc/X11/X...-4 (non ircordo quale dei 2!) ho trovato qualche info che magair potrebbe aiutarvi a darmi delle dritte, infatti mi dice:

sembra dire che non riesce a recuperare informazioni dall'hardware

ma hai scelto xfree4.3 alla fine della configurazione ???
per i monitor non immettere le frequenze manualmente
cerca una configurazione generica 31.5 - 35 o anche maggiore stesso discorso per il verticale

io ho un acer fp563 e nella configurazione metto il 561 perche il mio non c'è e va benissimo
prova da consolle a digitare urpmi -a
per vedere se ti installa i file mancanti
se vuoi c'è la possibilità di aggiungere la fonti web anche da consolle
c'è da installare un programmino scaricabile da internet oppure scrivere manualmente questa riga
urpmi.addmedia main ftp://ftp.club-internet.fr/pub/unix/linux/distributions/Mandrake/9.1/i586/Mandrake/RPMS with ../base/hdlist.cz

poi prova un

urpmi --auto-select

si ho provato sia X free 4.3 con supporto HW che senza: stesso problema!

PS: l'XF86Config-4 e l'XFree86.0.log li ho ottenuti con questa config in mcc: monitor personalizzato (le frequenze di refresh son quelle che erano già presenti di default!), scheda Radeon 8500, risoluzione 1024*768*16!.

manca senz'altro qualche file per darti quell'errore di urpmi
ed è strano perche' quelli sono pacchetti di base che il sistema dovrebbe installare automaticamente
quindi prima cosa fai ripartire l'installazione e scegli aggiornamento selezionado scelta personalizzata
installa perl e se hai spazio il software per lo sviluppo e altro software in generale

il problema semba essere il monitor che va continuamente out of range
quindi devi insistere li provando vari tipi di monitor scegli un generic con le risoluzioni di default del tuo

io comunque rifarei l'installazione daccapo installerei personalizzando l'installazione piu' softwere e mi soffermerei al momento delle configurazioni finali a fare da li la configurazione video cliccando il pulsante "fare" e da li provare le varie configurazioni fino a che non appare la schermata grigia con il messaggio di conferma che ha trovato il monitor e la configurazione ideale
se non appare la schermata riclicca "fare" e cambia monitor

per il mouse se usi l'usb prova con glidepoint

l'ho già fatto un casino di volte! Con XFdrake ho provato diversi monitor! Per i driver video che dici non potrebbero essere quelli? però ho provato sia Radeon 8500 che i vesa... ma niente!

Comunque quando faccio la prova delle impostazioni video mi appare sempre la schermata grigia col messaggio "correct settings etc etc"! E' quello che mi lascia perplesso! Durante questi test non da problemi e visualizza la schermata correttamente, mentre all'avvio di X rompe le balle! come mai secondo te?

Ieri ho tolto tutto e ho rimesso Mdk 9.0, e come prevedevo con questa funziona tutto alla grande!
Permettetemi di dire che quei cazzoni che han fatto l'"upgrade" a 9.1 han lasciato per strada qualche particolare (tipo qualche driver o comunque han peggiorato qualcosa in termini di comapatibilità... tenendo conto che comunque ho una 8500LE comunissima insieme a un comunissimo monitor, che tra l'altro non è nemmeno compreso nell'elenco dei monitor ).

Al momento di fare l'aggiornamento via Internet mi ha trovato 1.3Gb di roba! E ovviamente non è riuscito a prendere tutto che è andata in timeout la connessione... comunque con fastweb mi stimava un paio d'ore per completare il tutto... quindi direi una cosa fattibile... posso comunque completare il download in seguito tramite il Control center con la voce Upgrade Mdk quindi... domanda:

io l'ho fatto questo upgrade prima che uscisse la 9.1 ed andava benissimo anche se qualcosa della 9 rimane (la differenza è minima) dopo l'upgrade devi solo installare il nuovo kernel che non mette di default da se ma è semplicissimo basta installarlo con urpmi ti dovrebbe mettere automaticamente una voce a lilo
quello è importante perche il nuovo kernel va davvero bene
non so come mai ti ha fatto tutti questi problemi (io insisto sui cde mi scaricherei i cd dal sito di mandrake pre riprovare)

per terminare l'aggiornamento digita da root

urpmi --auto-select

ti scarica i file mancanti e ti installa il tutto
l'udate di mandrake serve per gli aggiornamenti della 9.1 non per la 9
con questi mega upgrade puo succedere che il sistema abbia qualche problemino
l'importante è trovare gli ftp che vanno
se comincia a non trovare dei pacchetti conviene eliminare le fonti di software e ricrearle con il
solito sistema
cerca dove è possibile di mettere gli ftp di club.internet.fr che non danno grossi problemi

per la debian puoi anche mettere xfree4.3 pero devi mettere nel sources.list questa riga

I 3 cd li avevo presi proprio da un FTP del sito www.mandrake.com... dici che un'altra prova potrebbe essere riprenderli e rimasterizzarli? No io credo che i miei problemi derivino proprio dagli XFree 4.3.. quindi i 4.2 dovrebbero andare (cosa che invece non succede con la mia DEbian....boh!). Mdk 9.0 ha i 4.2 no? o 4.1?

(non aggiornare alla cooker perche in questi giorni stanno aggiornando pacchetti di base e l'aggiornamento non funziona
mandrake 91ha xfree4.3 la mandrake 9 ha xfree4.2.1
la sid se non metti repository particolari ti mette il 4.2.1
il kernel se aggiorni con le repository on line te lo trovi in installazione pacchetti
quando hai fatto mandrake update ti ha scaricato (credo) gli aggiornamenti per la 9
se ti ha aggiornato alla 9.1 quando fa il boot ti dice startig 9.1 (controlla)

con le fonti on line hai a disposizione molto piu' software anche non free completamente

Peccato che continuo a non riuscire a far partire X!

Pensa che oggi in ufficio l'ho installata sul mio PC in una partizioncina: stessi CD con cui provavo a casa ovviamente, e tutto funziona alla grande! X parte senza alcun problema! Quindi escluderei i CD come fonti dei miei problemi, mi chiedo: ma come cazz@ è possibile che con un monito LG e una scheda video con chip ATI 8500 ho dei problemi di driver/compatibilità? Direi che non han fatto proprio un bel lavoro con questo upgrade...

PS: dimenticavo: voglio installarla pure a casa!!! Provandola in ufficio mi piace molto di + della 9.0 (per fronzoli di interfaccia + che altro ma che ci vuoi fare...) e quindi non vorrei dover installare la 9.0 pur di usaer Linux!
Poi volevo mettere anche Debian ma pure con quella stessi problemi di X... azz! ig:
