We had following models on our test: - VIA 686A is Southbridge, i.e. part of chipset [Apollo 133/133A,..] It supports UltraDMA/66 standard and is surely one of the most popular products on market. That is why we`ve used it as a reference controller so you can see advantages and downsides of potential upgrade to some latest generation UltraDMA/100 controller
- VIA 686B is latest VIA controller with UltraDMA/100 support. It is now being used in combination with VIA KT133 and PM133 system controllers. Due to its recent release, you can find it only on latest motherboard models. Its full affirmation is expected in January with the `invasion` of new chipsets [KT-133A]
- Promise model PDC-20265 controller chip can be found as integrated solution on ASUS A7V motherboard designed for Athlon/Duron processors
- Promise Ultra 100 PCI controller card with latest revision of Promise UDMA/100 controller - PDC-20267
- ABIT Hot Rod 100 Pro - PCI controller card based on High Point HPT 370 controller chip that supports even RAID 0, 1, 0+1 levels [besides UltraDMA/100]. This product shows HPT`s chip at its best! Note that High Point doesn`t produce their own PCI controllers but only supplies leading motherboard and IDE controller manufacturers with their products!
- Intel ICH2 [FW82801BA] - controller chip, part of Intel`s HUB architecture i815EP chipset is based upon and that is directly derived from i810E chipset.
