[Prima che divento pazza] nVidia Geforce 7400
ma di questa scheda NON esistono driver per linux? Ovvero, si che funziona, ma non supporta tutte le cavolate grafiche 3d? Dal sito di nVidia dice

Usa questa procedura (io ho usato Option 1):
Install nvidia drivers Option 1: Add this repo: Code: deb http://nvidia.limitless.lupine.me.uk/ubuntu edgy stable or Code: deb http://nvidia.limitless.lupine.me.uk/ubuntu edgy unstable added as well as one of the above. Key availiable: Code: wget -O- --quiet http://nvidia.limitless.lupine.me.uk...pine.me.uk.gpg | sudo apt-key add - Then Code: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx sudo apt-get upgrade The upgrade should update your linux-restricted-modules & linux-restricted-modules-common packages. Code: sudo nvidia-xconfig --add-argb-glx-visuals Should backup and update your xorg.conf with compositing. Restart the computer and your new drivers should be installed. (You will have to have had previously followed method 1 in the link above, or you will have to change xorg as outlined there. Option2: If you would prefer to install the nvidia drivers from nvidia's script, you may simply download the NVIDIA drivers from here, then: Code: sudo nano /etc/default/linux-restricted-modules-common Make the last line look like Code: DISABLED_MODULES="nv" ctrl+x and y to save. Then Code: sudo apt-get install linux-headers-`uname -r` build-essential gcc gcc-3.4 xserver-xorg-dev sudo apt-get --purge remove nvidia-glx nvidia-settings nvidia-kernel-common sudo rm /etc/init.d/nvidia-* sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop sudo sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9629-pkg1.run sudo nvidia-xconfig --add-argb-glx-visuals sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start The Nvidia script should change your xorg.conf to enable nvidia drivers & compositing.

La scheda è perfettamente supportata. I 7184 sono i legacy, è normale che la scheda non sia supportata... Edit: non tutti usano ubuntu, la procedura che hai postato non si applica a mandriva

stai su mandriva, giusto ?? l'ultima volta che ho installato mandriva la procedura mi ha chiesto se ci volevo o no installare i drivers nvidia,,, li ho installati e andava tutto...

Jackie non devi mettere i driver legacy ( i 7xxx ) ma quelli lisci, della serie 9xxx.
Qualche giorno fà sono usciti i 9755. Per installarli devi avere xorg-dev, source del kernel, gcc 3.4 e credo basta.

# urpmi -y kernel-headers -a ??? a me pare comunque che servisse anche il kernel source # uname -a vedi il kernel in uso # urpmi -y kernel # urpmi kernel-source_che_ci_vuole ti installa i sorgenti. A questo punto puoi installare il driver nvidia seguendo la guida. |

se vuoi un consiglio lascia stare mandriva e usa almeno ubuntu/kubuntu (dipende se preferisci gnome o kde)

Confermo che Mandriva all'installazione chiede se installare i driver nvidia proprietari.
