[Official Thread] Amilo M4438

Ok ragazzi, nonostante sia ancora presto e nonostante personalmente sia ancora indirizzato verso l'XPS2, per forza di cose è giusto aprire questo official thread, come mi è stato richiesto, riguardante il nuovo gioiello di casa Fujitsu in uscita per i primi di Maggio qui in Italia.

Queste le caratteristiche:

Unveiled today at CeBIT 2005, Fujitsu Siemens' new Amilo M4438 is one of the most fully featured desktop replacements to date; essential specifications include a 17" widescreen display in 16:10 format, powered by a whopping 256 MB of video RAM and a pixel resolution that's beyond today's best HDTVs - and in a world first, I was able to spend some playtime with Fujitsu Siemens' latest wunderchild.

Demonstrated at CeBIT by means of a video running in Windows Media HD format, I found the display of the Amilo 4438 to be strikingly sharp, as well as impressively bright and clear due to an apparent lack of anti-glare coating. Raw power propels the graphics output courtesy of a Nvidia GeForce Go 6800 chip with 256 MB of dedicated video RAM, which should have even most desktop gamers raising their eyebrows in silent acknowledgement.

That's not all, however, since the M4438 is also run off Intel Pentium M processors ranging from 1.6 GHz through a speedy 2.13 GHz, and can be delivered with DDR2 RAM ranging from 256 MB up to 2 GB. Hard drive storage is of course no less impressive, with two SATA slots available for configurations of either 120 or 160 GB at current - plus an expected maximum of a quite surreal 240 GB in the third quarter. Also, the M4438 offers RAID 0 and 1 support.

In the department of optical storage, we find a highly capable multi-format DVD burner supporting DVD+-RW and DVD+R Dual Layer for capacities of up to 8.5 GB, which is joined by a battery of both wired and wireless connectivity options.

For data, we find a FireWire jack; four USB 2.0 ports; a 10/100 Ethernet port; a V.92 56K fax modem; a DVI-I connector; and S-Video and SPDIF audio out. Furthermore, there's an ExpressCard slot, as well as a multi-format memory card reader supporting SD, MMC, Memory Stick and Memory Stick PRO formats - and to top it all off, an Intel PRO/Wireless 802.11b/g module for Wi-Fi connectivity.

Performance, as one might have expected, I found to be blazing. In particular, video-related functions flowed smoothly despite the display grandeur of the unit, which is, in fact, more than HDTV 1080 compliant. Amazingly, Fujitsu Siemens have also managed to cram a subwoofer (!) along with a set of stereo speakers into the M4438, and despite the noisy showfloor I must admit to being impressed with the quality.

According to Fujitsu Siemens, the included 4400 mAH Lithium Ion battery should power the 4.1 KG M4438 for up to two hours. Due out in the third quarter, although its pricing is still unknown, the M4438 will also see the introduction of an ExpressCard TV Tuner accessory with analog DVB-T reception to tie in with a Windows XP Media Center Edition version of the laptop.

In related news, Fujitsu Siemens also unveiled the Amilo M3438, which offers 1440 x 900 pixel resolution display but otherwise remains identical to the M4438."

Però questa bestia mi sta tentando e non poco!

Credo che come monitor non abbia niente a che spartire. C'è chi dice che sia meglio dell' x-black. Se così fosse come ho già letto su notebookforums e come aveva detto una volta Zara: "preferisco un monitor bestiale con una 6800 liscia che una 6800 ultra con un monitor così così"

Probabilmente aspetterò le tue considerazioni e i tuoi bench sull'XPS quando ce l'avrai sottomano per poi decidere!

Vabbè come euri siamo ai livelli di un 9300 anzi, da come dicono (anche se non ci credo) il prezzo base dovrebbe essere sui €1500!!!

Se così fosse non mi sembrano poi tanti per una bestiola del genere, anzi!

Ragazzi a proposito: ho letto che questo nb non avrà la PCMCIA ma la Expresscard. Sapete nulla riguardo questo tipo di scheda?

Bah, mi sembra una bella macchina ma in tutto e per tutto uguale al 9300 se si fa eccezione per il reparto HD (e voi direte.... hai detto niente.....).

Bisogna capire meglio il discorso qualita' LCD e al solito il prezzo finale di una configurazione degna di questo nome......

(mi sa che i 1500 sono un po come DELL quando propone il 9300...... poi vai a vedere e trovi: HD40@4200, 256 Mb RAM, ATI X300 etc etc......)

Cmq vale la pena tenere l'orecchio alzato: le promesse sono hi level........
