Impostare la risoluzione 800x600 sulla TV...

Salve, ho ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy) kernel 2.6.17.10-generic, scheda ATI X700 sul notebook ACER ASPIRE 5502WXMI, installati i driver prorpietari ATI.
Il problema è il seguente:
Sul portatile ho una risoluzione di 1280x800 e ho impostato il tv-out, ma il problema è che sulla TV vedo solo parte del desktop, non lo vedo tutto completamente, presumo perché sulla TV il video è impostato a 1280x800 (come sul portatile). Allora la mia domanda è: come posso far lavorare la tv a 800x600 e mantenere sul portatile la risoluzione di 1280x800 ??
Il televisore è un televisore normale PAL.
Su windows(quando lo usavo) utilizzavo la funzione "theatre mode"...e riuscivo a vedere sulla tv a 800x600 mentre sul portatile a 1280x800. In modo tale che riuscivo a vedere completamente il desktop sulla tv e non solo una parte...

Ho già cercato su google ma non ho trovato niente...siete la mia ultima risorsa... Good
