Preciso che uso l'uscita video "opengl" (la selezioni semplicemente dal menu di kaffeine "Impostazioni->Parametri del motore xine", pannelo "video"), ma va anche con Xv. Forse è un problema di compiz o dell'overlay di XGL, ma non credo. Comunque, invece di smanettare con xorg.conf, prova a cambiare uscita video di Kaffeine come detto prima, se vuoi andare sul sicuro scegli "xshm" come uscita video, la qualità è leggermente inferiore ma si vedrà di sicuro in uno screenshot (prova anche con "opengl" e fammi sapere).

Cambiando il settaggio da Auto (default) a OpenGL o xshm riesco a fare gli screenshot, ma la qualita' video, come hai detto tu, ne risente un po'; inoltre, con openGL l'uso della CPU si alza notevolmente.
Ma posso sapere cosa mi hai fatto fare esattamente?

Per quanto riguarda lo skydome, anche a me capita che con le immagini 4096x1024 a volte non le applica, forse perchè la dimensione del file è troppo grande (mi è sembrato che non applica gli skydome > 30 Mb). Prova a ridurre la dimensione del file (magari abbassando la risoluzione DPI con Gimp), oppure ad usare skydome 2048x512.

Aterm Eterm e Tilda dovrebbero essere tutti molto simili; tilda (che vedi nel mio screenshot) ha l'opzione per non essere mostrato nella barra delle applicazioni.

Ti offendi se ti dico che è veramente brutto? Enlightenment era (ed è, peccato per lo sviluppo lento) un eye-candy perfetto, ma quel desktop è tutto tranne che candy (se non forse per il colore )..

Semplicemente ti ho fatto cambiare l'uscita video, o più esattamente il driver con cui xine (stiamo usando kaffeine, che usa xine come backend video) fa output video verso il Xorg. Tutto qui.
Xshm è il driver "software", non usa alcun overlay della scheda video ma computa tutto tramite CPU e manda a xorg un buffer immagine calcolato appunto dalla cpu in memoria condivisa, come se fosse una normale immagine statica (anche per questo la sua qualità è inferiore, applicare effetti postprocessing sarebbe troppo "pesante" per la CPU).
Il driver OpenGL sfrutta appunto OGL, e ti posso dire che, almeno sul mio PC con una ATI 9600 XT + drivers proprietari ATI (fglrx), la qualità è identica ad Xv, solo un pochino più ciuccia risorse (ma di un 4/5%). Lo uso perchè, con XGL attivo, usando Xv (il driver di default) ho a volte degli artefatti (bande verdi o colori disaccoppiati) con alcuni divx, quindi con XGL il driver OpenGL risulta migliore di XV (almeno per me).
Giusto per precisione, quando setti "Auto" in kaffeine, viene usato Xv

O lo fai tramite file di configurazione (nella tua home c'e' una cartella nascosta .tilda con le impostazioni - il primo file e' relativo al primo tilda che apri, il secondo al secondo tilda, ecc.) o lo fai da menu', tasto destro e poi il tutto e' gestito tramite grafica. Non ricordo esattamente il parametro del file o la voce del menu' da selezionare (non ho il portatile sotto mano), ma nel caso di menu' grafico e' semplicissimo, basta mettere un segno di spunta.

Ho salvato l' immagine del mondo che è linkata un po' di pagine fa, ma una volta impostata come sfondo non si vede nulla.... o meglio ho un bel colore beige omogeneo

Se hai problemi di dipenenze ti serve un pacchetto per il client mysql che effettua le chiamate al database di amarok.

A dover di cronaca, non è opera mia, mi sono limitato a sfruttare un'idea di un utente del forum di beryl e ho un pò modificato il suo conkyrc, inserendo qualcosa di mio:
