USB2 e /dev/sda1

Scusate, ho preso da poco un portatile e ho installato Fedora Core 3, ma ho un problema, non riesco a montare il mio HD esterno (cosa che sul vecchio portatile riuscivo a fare). Nel mio nuovo portatile ho solo porte USB2, mentre sul vecchio credo fossero USB. E' possibile che non me lo riconosca per questo? Ho notato anche un'altra cosa preoccupante, non trovo sda1 in dev/, da cosa dipende? Qualcuno può aiutarmi? Magari ho sbagliato qualcosa nell'installazione?

Devi caricare i moduli per l'usb2.

Non ho capito bene come si caricano i moduli usb2. Comunque, in
/lib/modules/2.6.12-1.1372_FC3/kernel/drivers/usb/host
c'è il file
ehci-hcd.ko
ed eseguendo il comando lsmod a un tratto trovo scritto
uhci_hcd 35025 0
ehci_hcd 40013 0
quindi credo che il modulo sia caricato (sempre che sia ehci_hcd).
Provando ad accendere l'HD esterno e digitando dmesg mi compare, come prima, la seguente scritta
usb 1-4: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3
usb 1-4: device not accepting address 3, error -110
usb 1-4: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4
usb 1-4: device not accepting address 4, error -110
usb 1-4: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 5

Continuo a ripetere che in /dev non esiste sda1, non è strano?
Potete aiutarmi?

usb2-ehci-0114.patch
può essermi utile? Se sì, come faccio a installarla?

Comunque, mi manca pure usbcore e non ho idea da dove prenderlo.

Attacca l'hd e poi posta un dmesg (e anche un lsmod magari).
Considera anche il passaggio a fedora core 4, magari hanno migliorato la parte riguardante project utopia.

Credo di aver trovato qualcosa, comunque.
Credo che il mio kernel sia danneggiato, non riesco ad accedere a /lib/modules/2.6.12-1.1372_FC3/build
dal terminale risulta rosso questo direttorio. L'ho scoperto cercando il file .config (per poter compilare il kernel e abilitarlo all'usb).
Cosa mi consigliate? C'è un modo per reinstallare il kernel? Sono due ore che ci provo.

Scusate poi sono riuscita a vedere il mio HD esterno. Ho trovato da qualche parte questi comandi suggeriti:
#/sbin/modprobe -r ehci-hcd
#/sbin/modprobe usb-storage

Tutto va bene. Vedo il mio HD esterno, ma, ovviamente, mi va lento perchè, se non sbaglio il primo comando disattiva proprio il modulo per l'USB2.
Sapete suggerirmi qualcosa? Non posso avere l'USB2?
