Anche se dice che c'è la possibilità di avere sotto mano i primi sample e in grande quantità a settembre ottobre...

Perciò considerando che se la produzione allo stato attuale è bassa e molto probabilmente si avrà un paper lanch..perchè le prime schede si avranno disponibili in commercio con il contagocce a maggio/giugno considerando che dopo poco ci sono le ferie ed i fornitori chiudono, si potranno stoccare diverse schede per poi averle in quantità solo verso settembre...

Insomma la situazione è tutto tranne che favorevole per noi
In casa ATI sicuramente se la staranno ridendo di quando gli snobbarono l'architettura R600...visto che la bimba evoluta ha dato vita alla HD5XXX ed il loro progetto del tempo forniva talmente tante rivoluzioni architetturali come il buon Yoss ci aveva fatto presente che forse erano troppo avanti per il periodo, ma facilmente upgraddabile con costi di R&D relativamente bassi.

Quello che mi gira le scatole è per la fascia bassa e media e soprattutto dei portatili dove nVidia è completamente sguarnita di schede non solo DX11, ma addirittura DX10.1 di un certo calibro...
A mio avviso si giocheranno il mercato OEM a breve..perchè se tirano fuori schede video medio/basse di nuova generazione quando arrivano? Novembre? per Natale prox?

Così ATI potrà fare il bello e cattivo tempo e non va bene a noi!

Spero solo che per onestà verso gli acquirenti la nVidia non usi la strategia

You know how NV embargoes information about sample cards right? Well, I am under no embargoes with NV currently. Chinese New Year just ended so the world over there is just spinning up this week. We might possibly see some sample cards in the first week of March is what I am guessing. But that is still iffy.

I don't see any way possible that NVIDIA is going to have any quantity of 400 series cards on the shelf before September or October.

The build kits have been delivered and some quantity of GPUs have been shipped, but that quantity is very small.

ma gustosa de che ? a fine anno ci sarà il refresh delle 5xxx, ma Fermi sarà lo stesso del video di farcry...... mica avremo fermi 2....

da quello che ho capito io a fine marzo ci sarà una presentazione ufficiale ed una specie di "mini-vendita" di poche migliaia di pezzi (sotto i 10000)...

...questi prodotti saranno GTX480 e GTX470 basate sul "Fermi 1" a 40nm e probabilmente la top avrà 448sp (con la conseguente riduzione delle altre unità) e sarà caratterizzata da consumi e calore elevati...


...fare nuove revsioni di GF100 a 40nm è controproducente e addirittura secondo alcuni, con le attuali teconologie. per nvidia è impossibile commercializzare fermi a 40nm in grosse quantità e con i parametri inizialmente prestabiliti...

...ammesso che fosse possibile farlo cmq il tempo che imphiegerebbe a rendere Fermi a 40nm commercializzabile in quantità sarebbe cmq troppo perchè possa all'uscita risultare competitivo...

...si prevede che nvidia stia già al lavoro su una nuova versione di Fermi a 28nm...

...quindi a fine marzo pubblicherà i dati e renderà disponibili circa 9000 esemplari tra GTX480 e GTX470...e di li in poi ci sarà il nulla finchè non riuscirà ad immettere sul mercato "Fermi 2" a 28nm...nella più ottimistica delle previsioni verso fine 2010...

...contro queste ipotesi, che oramai vengono avallate anche da giornalisti che solitamente non sparano caxxate, ci son le affermazioni del CEO nvidia che se da una parte confermano un "fermi 1 40nm castrato" per fine marzo in pochi esemplari dall'altra smentiscono il resto parlando di una commercializzazione di "Fermi 2 revision sempre a 40nm" presentato per inzio estate e con probabile commercializzazione nel periodo "back to school"...

...ma date le numerose caxxate che ha sparato negli ultimi mesi (a volte mi pare quasi stia facendo a gara col mitico Kaz[zaro]unori ) ho i miei dubbi e ultimamente mi vedo più propenso ad ipotizzare un vero e proprio lancio di Fermi solo quando potrà essere commercializzato a 28nm...

...questo almeno è quello che c'ho capito io ...

...da una parte mi dispiace perchè vorrà dire che per poterlo acquistare ci sarà d'aspettare un bel pò (anche perchè non avendo la necessità e giusto per togliermi uno sfizio di sicuro non vado a cercar col lanterino uno dei 9000 esemplari del fermi castrato che usciranno tra marzo/aprile)...

...allo stesso tempo però ci vedo di posotivo che almeno le gpu DX11 ati potranno prender più piede come architettura base su cui creare i prox giochi DX11 per fargli recuperare quel terreno che all'uscita delle dx10 aveva perso con R600...

GTX 470 Price and PSU Requirement

It’s a busy day, the rumour mill is going crazy with information regarding the GTX 400 series and what’s going to be announced. While for the most part it seems that NVIDIA are going to make mention of a release date early Monday morning in the US we’ve heard even more information.

This time on the GTX 470; Price? It looks like the official launch price on this model will be $299 USD. To put this into perspective this is the same price as the HD 5850. Which means from a price stand point it’s going to compete directly against that model, no doubt NVIDIA will be aiming the performance of the model more around the HD 5870 area though.

When it comes to power it looks like NV are going to be suggesting a 550 Watt minimum unit to run the model. Compared to the HD 5850 which ATI say requires a minimum of 500 Watt this is a slight bump.

Saying that though most people these days looking at a card like this should be carrying a decent quality 600+ Watt power supply. The requirement though while not being much of a worry does put a concern on just how much power the model will use, in a time where it’s become cool to be green this could be an issue for some.

So I figure that we’re on the edge of an announcement on launch date for the GTX 400 series, combine the Facebook announcement made by NVIDIA the other day along with the whispers of a more solid mid to late March launch date on the model and it’s pretty clear that we’re going to hear some concrete information on this in the next 12 hours.

Now if the card is only a month away from being released that means it’s time to chase up samples. To be honest chasing samples isn’t something I do these days, I’m in constant conversation with my contacts, and when I say constant I mean I speak to most people I deal with daily. This means I’m always in the loop when it comes to information, it also helps me bring you exclusive information as well.

Since it’s been a while since we’ve really got anything from NV though it was time to talk to some of the NV only partners to see what’s going on. Working for a Tier 1 website has its benefits, and working for one for 7 years is even better. All I need to do is drop the TweakTown name and my own and these companies know who they’re dealing with.

So when a company says we can’t send a sample due to shortage they know that this isn’t going to cut it as an excuse. ATI partners like Sapphire and HIS have no issue sending cards when on shortage. Well the issue seems that you combine the fact that the model in itself is going to be a shortage and that partners offer a two year warranty instead of the one NV offer them and you quickly see the problem.

With the model no doubt being expensive partners don’t want to order too many; if a product dies 1 year after warranty and the company offers 2 it comes directly out of their pocket. Instead companies want to wait for their own design of the model before going too hard with the model.

This 1 year warranty causes two problems for you. Firstly companies don’t want to have too many because if they get a heap back after the first year it costs them which in turn creates a shortage. More importantly though the price goes up on the model so they can cover themselves for cards that die after that one year time frame.
