Darwin
Mentre cercavoinformazioni per installare Linux sull'iMac G5 (che non mi è ancora arrivato ) ho notato che la cosa non è delle più semplici: prima di tutto, si fa fatica a fare il boot di una qualsiasi distro ppc/ppc64 per via del controller sata, ma per questo pare ci sia una patch, secondo, e più importante, il supporto nvidia per ppc su linux è inesistente, ossia non ci sono driver 3D accelerati per linux su ppc/ppc64. Ok, Xfree e xorg hanno l'accelerazione 2d funzionante nelle ultime versioni in modo decente (leggevo) ma non è la stessa cosa
Allora per curiosità ho dato un'occhiata a Darwin e mi pare chiaro che ci possa costruire un sistema completamente open source Darwin+X11, XFree o XOrg Ho visto che c'è il progetto GNU/Darwin Mi sorge però una domanda: i driver nvidia sono compresi in tutto questo? |

No, ovviamente. I driver nvidia si trovano solo per x86 e amd64

E soprattutto i drivers NVIDIA si trovano solo per Linux e FreeBSD per quanto riguarda UNIX.
Se vuoi un accellerazione 3d sotto PPC dovresti mettere una Radeon 8500 o comunque della serie R2XX ed usare i DRI Ciao

ho chiesto questo: i driver Mac OS X per schede nvidia funzionano su Darwin? Sono compresi? Darwin è il kernel di Mac OS X. |

per la cronaca, nell'iso di darwin ci sono i driver binari ati e nvidia ppc... se poi funzionino su xfree/xorg con darwin, non lo so
