Certo che se uno si mettesse in testa di aspettare westmere nel 2010, allora tanto varrebbe aspettare sandy bridge che uscirà nello stesso anno e rappresenterà il nuovo punto di arrivo , in quel momento, della strategia tick-tock.
Ma io personalmente non so se ce la farò ad aspettare tanto...massimo resisto fino a quando uscirà la definitiva release di windows 7!

Bloomfield Corei7 to last till then


According to Intel's latest plans the Nehalem iteration called Bloomfield should last at least until the end of Q1 2010. We are talking roughly one year from today and we are still not sure that even then Intel will rush to replace quad-core CPUs with six core CPUs.

The main issue will be the performance gain, as we believe that clock to clock Nehalem and Westmere based CPU would have a significant performance difference. Westmere will have a few new instructions and innovations over Nehalem / Bloomfield, but unless it runs at much higher clock, it won't make much of a difference in performance.

Computer games and most applications today, including your browser, simply won't benefit from six cores. In the server world you already have six core Core 2 based CPUs and there will be a Nehalem based upgrade this year, with more than four cores.

We can now confirm that the X58 platform is here to stay. Intel plans to release a new six-core 32nm CPU next year, and the good news is that this chip will continue to support its X58 chipset.

The socket should be the same, LGA 1366, and a 32nm six-core should make for a good high end CPU. The question that Intel cannot officially confirm is if the Gulftown 32nm CPU will work in all existing X58 boards.

The problem is that Intel still doesn’t have the final silicon and that it needs to do a validation with the existing X58 infrastructure. If the motherboard manufacturers used Intel’s design guidelines, they should be fine. But there is no assurance that your X58 motherboard purchased in 2008 or 2009 will work with Gulftown.

That is the bad part, while the good part is that you probably won’t need to change your motherboard and memory. We are sure that with Gulftown 32nm six-core, there will also be newer and better versions of X58 motherboards. Intel obviously has economic recession in mind even, with its high end stuff.

The bottom line is that Gulftown 32nm might work in some X58 boards.

be dai westmere esa core verso natale 2009 è mio; poi nuovo pc che mi faro tra dua anni ci sta mobo procio e magari anche ram.....
p.s. che westmere sia per soket 1366 è stato confermato anche da fugger utente molto vicino alle politiche intel quindi è sicurissimo
