Sto cercando di capire come usare le "stellette" che mi hanno dato

Salve ragazzi...
Allora io sono completamente inesperto su linux...
L'ho messo su da poco con il file system su un emechines e510 con 4 giga di ram.
Dopo tre notti di sudate prove sono riuscito a configurare la wifi atheros.
Ora..smanettando dal lavoro per configurare il server proxy mi sono incasinato e non mi accede alla rete neanche da casa. O meglio..vede il segnale wifi ma non riesce a connettersi. Con vista tutto ok. Ora non vorrei buttarlo giu..ma no riesco neanche ad installare airsnort..ne le librerie gtk 2.0...
Cosa mi consigliate di fare? Ubuntu 8.10....Aiutooooo!!!

installato ubuntu 8.10 (il test continua...) su un lenovo x60s (gma950) e all'apertura di firefox (per esempio) ho degli artefatti: il display "impazzisce" per qualche istante e poi torna tutto normale.

Immagino ci sia qualche problema a livello driver della scheda video...idee?

Ho appena installato Ubuntu(ultima versione) sul portatile in questione: Acer Aspire 1692, tutto ok, l'unico problemaè il WiFi, non funziona, ne riesco a configurarlo, non riesco a capiere neache se la scheda di rete viene riconosciuta, ne si accende il LED quando pigio il tasto per attivare il WiFi.

Come posso risolvere il problema?
