Why this processor ? Very simple !
Core San Diego (90nm 1Mo Rev E) for a ridiculous price !

When it’s necessary to spend about 300 € for one San Diego 3700+ BOX, this one cost you half price ! The better advantage the price!

Indeed, it puts at the trash the current stars, I named Venice 3000, 3200 which cost the same price or more expensive and the San Diego 3700+ which cost more expensive !

About overclocking, its like any processor, there are good, very good, bad … depending of the stepping! In the worst case they are about the average of San Diego 3700+.
But apparently, AMD would equip Opteron with not bas die !

Not a lot of visible result of overcloking because these CPU is rarely, but I have see few 2.8 GHz stable in air with minder of 1.5V in CZ.

In fact, if you want launch you in Socket 939, not to search an another CPU!
If you have a not exceptional Venice or San Diego, you can economy and or or in performance. If the stepping are good or very good, you can sell your goods San Diego or FX !
