Non mi sono mai interessato al Gothic.. vorrei un pò capire quali sono le pietre migliari.. e le bands che lo rappresentano migliormente/maggiormente.

Paradise Lost - Gothic

Who has found the Britons of PARADISE LOST only with their last two, terrifying albums and loves them, should better circle "Gothic" wide, very wide, because this CD does not have anything to do with their new DEPECHE MODE-for-the-poor-sound.

Even though many won't believe me, but the genre-definition of Gothic Metal has been created by this, their second, album, on which they lead the Death Metal into a completely different direction, slow-paced, with a Gothic atmosphere, very well implemented female vocals of Sarah Marianne (far apart from the clichéd quota-girlies of many current acts) and tons of melancholic melodies that set new standards.

The opener "Gothic" showcases all of these elements, a lot more melodic than on their debut "Lost Paradise", but still a lot heavier than on their newer sonic tragedies (does it show through that I do not like their last two albums at all?), just as on the following tracks on which they so to say re-defined themselves and all in all created Gothic Metal.

The guitars already bear some of the characteristic minor-elegies in them, which PARADISE LOST would perfect on the following albums (including "Draconian Times"), Nick Holmes did not even try to sing, but is growling his way through the songs and double-bass-parts loosen up the melancholy.

In my opinion "Icon" still is the creative pinnacle of the Gentlemen Holmes, Mackintosh, Aedy and co., but still "Gothic" is one of the most influential albums of Metal, because it defined a complete sub-genre…

Lacrimosa - Elodia - Fassade - Echos [lo stile dei Lacrimosa, però, o ti piace o lo odi]
Katatonia - tutta la discografia, affettivamente sono legato a Viva Emptiness, che tende al Goth Rock, tipo HIM (forse ho esagerato )
Katatonia - Brave Murder Day è anche molto bello, solo che è pesantino (a livello di ripetitività)

Non è gothic, ma The Serpent Rainbow, per come io intendo il Gothic, è un brano perfetto Inoltre, IMHO, ci sono parecchi spunti Goth in giro per le varie canzoni.

Poi ci sarebbe anche da capire la differenza fra Gothic e Doom, che non mi è mai stata chiara (ma anche la differenza fra Gothic/Doom e il resto del Rock/Metal )

Il doom è un genere nettamente diverso dal "gothic", che di per se non vuol dire molto.

Gotico è un aggettivo utilizzato per definire determinati generi musicali, dalla musica elettronica del periodo dark fino al metal tastieristico e melodrammatico di Paradise Lost (gothic metal)... passando per il Gothic Rock.
Ecco, è importante capire di cosa si sta parlando.

Il doom è ben altro, è pesantezza e suoni sulfurei, i Candlemass sono un buon esempio di Doom Metal. Le radici del doom vero e proprio si trovano in gruppi come Black Sabbath, Electric Wizard...ed è soggetto a numerose contaminazioni psichedeliche, stoner, ecc...

Si, quello che viene chiamato Gothic Metal, cioè Within Temptation, Nightwish, Tristania e compagnia bella dovrebbero fare per te.
