Strano errore..non parte + X

Oggi tornato a casa avvio il pc e..sorpresa...non parte più il server X. Adesso l'ho comunque fatto partire modificando il file XFree86.conf e cambiando i driver dalla szione "device" da "nvidia" a "vesa".
Tra l'altro se provo ad installare i driver di nuovo mi dice che non ho un modulo del kernel caricato (il prog di installazione della nvidia).
Volevo quindi sapere il comando per caricare un modulo del kernel (nvidia)..chi me lo dice?

Si ho aggiornato il kernel stamattina..da 2.6.4 a 2.6.5. Tramite apt-get upgrade.

Quando aggiorni il kernel devi reinstallare il driver nvidia, poi torna tutto come prima

Si ma se li reinstallo mi dice che non ho il modulo del kernel della nvidia....e mi ha anche detto che eventualmente posso fornire il percorso nel qualse sono installate le sorgenti del kernel...Ho scaricato le sorgenti con apt-get -d install kernel-source ma non so dove me le salva

I sorgenti sono in /usr/src/ e sono compressi, quindi devi scomprimerli dentro quella directory.
Però dovrebbe essere sufficente apt-gettare i kernel-headers della versione esatta del tuo kernel (2.6.8-2,2.6.9 o quel che è).
Cmq prova o a scomprire i sorgenti o a installare gli headers e poi a riavviare l'installer nvidia. Poi dovrebbe andare.
Io installo i kernel-headers perchè occupano meno spazio rispetto a tutto il sorgente del kernel

Non funziona un cavolo....

l'installer nvidia mi dice di mettere dopo ./nvidia-installer il --kernel-source-path.
Io il sorgente del kernel lo ho in /usr/src/packages/SOURCES/linux-2.6.5, solo che se faccio:
