Non so se a qualcuno potrà interessare, comunque questo è quello che ho trovato sul forum della HP (purtroppo è solo in inglese).
La cosa strana è che su forum italiani questo tipo di problema non sia mai stato discusso. Sbaglio?

When working in MS Office Excel, I keep getting a GPF error in module HPBF3120.DRV, which is a HP driver, at 001a:000000297 or 001a:000068b0. I want to see whether I need to update the driver or download any patches, but there isn't any support for the 1200 and I don't know which to download, if any. Any answers?

You didn't give your O/S, but here's the link to Win98 drivers and patches. Scroll up or down for different O/S.

I had the same problem. The culprit is the PCL6 driver. Try PS driver. It's a little slower when printing but doesn't contain the infamous HPBF3120.DRV.
If you try to update your PCL6 driver, forget it! because there is an error in the HP download page (at least for HP Laserjet 1200, 1200SE and Windows 98). The lj*.exe files do not update anything.

I'm sorry, but I just don't understand how this board works. I keep trying to reply, but all I get is my own question. There were two responses. The first only told me what I already knew: the link for downloads. The problem is that there are multiple possible downloads.

The second response would have been helpful except that by the time it was posted I'd already downlaoded a different driver. However, I later found that I couldn't print some of the symbols from MSWordXP, so I called HP and was told to download the driver for the HP4Plus. That seems to have solved that problem.

I have no idea how to assign points. I've seen posts complaining about people not assigning points; has it occurred to anyone that it's not clear how to do this? How can I assign points when I can't even access each post separately?? I do appreciate everyone's efforts though.

Andrea,

I am glad that you have found an solution to your question. The LJ4+ driver is a good workaround for many of the later LJs. It sometimes happens that the LJ4+ driver does not support a feature of the later printer, but this really depends on your particular needs. For many people, the LJ4+ driver is just fine for the newer LJ.

I would particularly like to thank you for your thoughts regarding the points system. When you initially posted your question, the system responded with the following acknowledgement:

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ BEGIN
post new message - acknowledgement

Thank you for your continued participation in the community, and we appreciate that you're using this service to get peer's advice to your tough questions.

Please remember that you're asked to review and rate the answers you receive to each question you post. When you return to the business customer discussion groups and view your replies, please assign points to each response you receive. When you're logged in, this will appear as a button next to each response.

This is a critical feedback mechanism and ONLY YOU can rate each answer you've received. So, please take a moment to make the community knowledge being shared here that much richer. As you assign points, please keep in mind the scale that applies:

N/A:
The answer was simply a point of clarification to my original question
1- 3:
The answer didn't really help answer my question but thanks for your assistance!
4- 7:
The answer helped with a portion of my question, but I still need some additional help.
8-10:
The answer has solved my problem completely! Now I'm a happy camper!
If you have questions about the Points System, please look for more information in the Discussion Groups section of the online help.

Again, feedback is appreciated. We'd love to hear from you!
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ END

The above msg refers to a "button next to each response." It is actually a drop-down list (an clickable arrow pointing down), which allows you to select how many points to assign to that particular response. You must be logged in to the forum to assign points.

The HP employees that monitor (and sometimes contribute) to this forum can easily be identified by the blue HP logo next to their name. Everyone else is an unpaid volunteer. So receiving points inspires the recipient to spend more time here, helping more people.

One of the many benefits of the points system is, a newcomer with a question can quickly tell how experienced the person offering advice is, by what kind of "hat" they wear.

Please post back if anything is unclear.

Points appreciated if this helps.

:-) Jay

Jay,

I don't want to appear too dense, but the truth is that I don't see any button OR drop down list (arrow) on my screen. I'm using a laptop, but I scrolled left to right, top to bottom, and it's not there as best I can tell. I can't even access your message or anyone's independently. I can view the entire thread but when I hit "reply," all I get above what I'm typing now is my original question, unless I cut and paste the previous screen. If I click on a responder's name, such as yours, it eventually leads me to the same thread. I can see that you've been given points for other posts, but how??? I did receive the information about how to assign points and I can find information about that on this site. That's not the problem. I just can't do it! I am logged in--I'm sure because I'm welcomed, along with the ID number. I'm not the most techie person on the planet, but I'm not completely illiterate either and I know my way around a computer and message board. Yet this one has me stumped. I'm certainly happy to award points if only I can figure out how, so if anyone can explain this dilemma to me . . .

Andrea,

I don't think you are dense. But I do think that there are two different issues here:

When one is composing a reply to a thread, the data entry form shows *only* the original question that started the thread. None of the replies are shown on that screen. I agree that this is a bit disconcerting, if one is composing a reply to a reply, not to the original question. What I do is cut-and-paste the entire thread into notepad, for easy reference. Then when I am ready to submit my reply, I paste my reply into the submit box.

I don't understand why you don't see any drop-down arrows, next to each response to your question. We know you are logged into the forum, because you see the greeting:

Welcome, Andrea!
(memberIDxxxxx)

There are well known and well documented problems with the points system. If often takes several attempts to click in points, before the points are actually registered by the system. Most people don't try to assign points more than once. If it does not work the first time, they just forget about it. Thanks for being persistent.

This is the first I have heard of the drop-down lists for points not even appearing, but how would I know? I don't compose many of my own questions, and this kind of problem could easily go undetected.

If you get a chance, check back later, to see if the drop-down lists have magically appeared.

:-) Jay

Hello Andrea -

I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing a problem assigning points. When you open your thread and see the list of replies, check the seperate messages. The utility to assign points is located immediately to the right of the date and time stamp of each message. It should be a white box that defaults to UNASSIGNED with a down arrow.

Thank you for differentiating between composing a reply, in which none of the replies are shown, and the drop-down arrows when logged in. However, here I am logged in again and still no drop-down arrows.

<<When you open your thread and see the list of replies, check the seperate messages. The utility to assign points is located immediately to the right of the date and time stamp of each message. It should be a white box that defaults to UNASSIGNED with a down arrow.>>

Nope. No white box. It says UNASSIGNED next to each post with NO arrow. I think you folks deserve lots of points for trying, but this isn't working. Don't know why. I'm using Windows 98SE with a Compaq Presario 1277 Notebook. I also have to click twice on Submit to get my posts to go through. At first I was worried that it would appear twice, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Andrea,

FYI: I have posted a screen capture to my website. It shows what you should be seeing, regarding the drop-down list for assigning points.

I'll try to post this only once. Jay, a million points to you for that screen shot, but no, that's not what I see. After the date and time, it says "GMT [unassigned]" and that's it. No opportunity to assign points.

Andrea,

My best guess is that this is some kind of java script problem on your laptop. (I think js is the software that does the drop-down function.) Or perhaps some obscure Win98 problem. We have not had any win9x boxes for some years, we have mostly winXP and some win2k.

I really think that if this were a widespread problem, I would have heard of it before.

If it is convenient, perhaps you could log onto the HP forum from a different PC. That will tell us if the problem is something peculiar with the laptop.

I really appreciate your help with this problem. You have gone beyond the call of duty.

Hi Andrea (or andrea), it appears you posted the question using one user account, and then replied using another. To assign points, you need to be logged in using the same account with which you posted the question.

Your user profile name "Andrea" was the one you used to post the original question (capital A). Your userid for this profile is CA921688 and the password is the same as the other account "andrea".

To assign points to those who replied to your question, simply login (click on the login link on the left side bar). Use the userid CA921688. When you are returned to the question, you'll see dropdown menu of points next to each reply. Select the number of points for each reply and then click the "submit" button at the lower left hand of the page.

Thanks,
Dan

Thanks so much for figuring this out. It never occurred to me that Andrea might have two forum accts. I did know that forum IDs are case-sensitive.

Andrea,

Thanks so much for your help figuring this out. HP Dan has explained to me (in a different thread) how I can spot the "two-accounts" problem in the future.

I think this thread is a good example of how helpful and informative an HP Forum can be, to all concerned.
