Xfree e monitor

Ciao a tutti.
Ho un Acer 732 ed una radeon 9100: in dvi non riesco a far andare il tutto a 1280*1024 (si setta a 1024*768 + schermo virtuale).
Come faccio a modificare il file di configurazione di xfree a mano per dargli i parametri corretti del mio monitor?
