Lite-On will start shipping DVD±R/RW drives this month

Lite-On's entry into the DVD writer market has been eagerly awaited by many. But the waiting might soon be over because Lite-On will start shipping its DVD±R/RW drives in volume this month according to Digitimes:


The company also disclosed that several new products developed in the second half of last year, including DVD±RW drives and slim-type combo drives, are scheduled to start volume shipments this month.

Prices are currently quoted at US$50 for CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drives, US$90 for slim-type CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drives, and US$140-150 for DVD+R/RW drives, but are expected to fall between US$5 and US$15 per unit each quarter this year.
NTI already shows three Lite-On "DVDRW" models in its list of supported drives which could be Lite-On's coming DVD writers: LDW-401D, LDW-401S and LDW-421S.

Ma è buono?
Basta che poi tutti non incominciano a fare il multiformato, così si allunga la standarizzazzione del DVD registrabile

E' presto per dirlo, nessuno lo ha ancora provato.
Calcola che al Cebit di Hannover in questi giorni presentano il Nec 1300 e LG 4040B, entrambi bistandard (anzi il secondo e' un tristandard, visto che scrive pure i DVD-Ram). Inoltre si parla di un Bistandard Tdk.
Nel giro di qualche mese i Sony avranno almeno ben 4 concorrenti.
Almeno Sony puo' limitarsi ad agire sui prezzi, abbassandoli.
Alla fine tutta questa nuova concorrenza potrebbe mettere piu' in difficolta Toshiba e Pioneer (che gia' sono indietro in quanto monostandard e non possono stare fermi) che la stessa Sony.

Anche se non ho capito ancora che differenza strutturale x scrittura ci sia in un master dvd-R e in uno dvd+R
Non basterebbe un aggiornamento di firmware ? ( sempre fatto dalla casa produttrice è ovvio )

Se fosse possibile aggiungere i formati per i masterizzatori aggiornandone il firmware, sarebbe possibile farlo anche per i lettori Dvd da pc e da tavolo: impossibile!
Non ci sarebbero le discussioni e le guerre sui formati audio, video e dati concorrenti tra le arie case; non ci sarebbero i consorzi di costruttori su di uno stesso formato.
