Mailserver: Problema porta 25

Ciao a tutti, ho il seguente problema su un server linux che monta Fedora4.
Praticamente succede che ogni tanto la porta 25 viene bloccata per un tot di minuti (5-10) e non si riesce piu' ad inviare (ma si riceve).
Ora non essendo espertissimo di linux ho fatto un ps aux quando funziona e quando non funziona.

... secondo voi cosa puo' essere che blocca la porta?!? Quel procmail?!? help !!!

Beh, Procmail è il processo che consegna le email nelle caselle degli utenti. Un'email in arrivo viene presa in carico da Sendmail (vedo che lo usi), che ascolta sulla porta 25, e quindi consegnata tramite Procmail nelle caselle degli utenti.

Vedo che c'è un processo pop3; con il fatto che possano ricevere intendi che gli utenti possano scaricare la posta? Se è così è normale che possano ricevere in quanto il processo di scaricamento della posta è appunto pop3 ed è in genere sulla porta 110. Quindi non c'entra con la porta 25.

Quando ti succede cercherei di spedire da un altro computer un messaggio a linea di comando, usando telnet.

In pratica esegui in Windows il comando telnet nomehost 25, dai i comandi di cui sopra (attento che per concludere il corpo del messaggio devi dargli invio - punto - invio) e vedrei che succede.

Inoltre guarderei i log.

la butto li ipotizzando....

immagino tu stia usando procmail che invoca clamscan su ogni mail
per il check antivirus.

ora dato che clamscan non è clamdscan che è il client del demone clamd,
immagino che questo ti faccia salire il load molto in alto, al punto che
sendmail con la protezione sul loadaverage smette di accettare connessioni.

per avere migliori dettagli dovresti postare un pezzo del maillog durante il non
funzionamento, un bel top e uptime.
