xorg per Matrox G200 e Voodoo 2

Ciao a tutti,
ho installato xubuntu 6.10 su un PII 400MHz con 256MB ram e con le schede grafiche Matrox Millenium G200 e Voodoo 2 (entrambe da 8MB se non erro...).

il mio problema è che non riesco a settare la voodo 2 per il 3d, infatti con glxgears le rotelle girano fluide per 1-2 sec. e successivamente vanno a scatti (tipo 1 ingranaggio ogni 2-3 secondi) mentre questo è l'output di glxinfo:

altrimenti adesso switcho e controllo se il modulo nel kernel c'è

Comunque solo con le specifiche per la Matrox G200 funziona, il problema è che toccando la sezione "screen" e mettendo a 16 il defaultdepth al riavvio mi usciva "frequenza fuori banda"...
Il questo per dire che probabilmente il primo modulo c'è, il glide, ninzò

Sarebbe utile se postassi anche il contenuto di /var/log/Xorg.0.log , aiuterebbe a identificare il problema^^

Sono niubbo, ma secondo me la domanda sul modulo "mga" è fondata, se non fai il load nella sezione modules come fa poi la scheda ad usarlo come driver? oppure il dichiararlo direttamente come driver fa caricare direttamente il modulo?

Interessato perchè devo mettere su una macchina con lo stesso hw...

ed il glxgears fa girar le rotelle fluidamente per alcuni secondi, poi rallenta, praticamente un ingranaggio ogni 3 sec o_O

Una prima cos ache noto è che l'opzione epr definire la ram della matrox è errata, l'ozione corretta è Option "MGASDRAM" "8192" d aquanto vedo nella documentazione, per la cronaca http://ftp.x.org/pub/X11R7.0/doc/html/manindex4.html

Inoltre una cosa che mi lascia perplesso è che nel log non ho visto menzione della Vodoo2.

Infine una cosa: i moduli tdfx e glide sono alternativi da quanto ho capito, inutile caricare il modulo tdfx se usi il driver glide, o viceversa :P

guarda che la 3dfx vodoo2 è un acceleratore only 3d e non può renderizzare in finestra. Puoi solo sfruttarla in fullscreen. Quando fai glxinfo penso si riferisca alla matrox g200.
Non so come aiutarti..ma so dirti che la vodoo2 di sicuro non accelera in finestra.
Io avevo la vodoo3 e girava tutto perfetto..il problema è che il supporto 2d nel core è stato aggiunto dalla vodoo banshee in su.

googla un po'...magari trovi qualcosa di anni fa. Ora come ora penso che a nessuno venga in mente di smadonnare per sfruttare il 3d di una scheda video come una vodoo2. Ai tempi era un sogno..ora boh..che te ne fai?

grazie, in effetti qualcosa di simile l'avevo letto nel manuale di xorg che mi ha postato cobra78... però pensavo di dover leggere del direct rendering abilitato almeno.
cmq anche se solo per far girare quegli ingranaggi mi aspettavo qualcosa di più dalla matrox

poi, so che è vecchia, ma piuttosto che buttarla provo a farla andare, magari qualche giochino mi gira... al limite cube

tieni presente che i drivers MesaFX per Voodoo 2 vengono sviluppati da Daniel Borca sotto Linux (Slackware) quindi è probabile che la Voodoo 2 si possa usare con soddisfazione anche con il sistema del pinguino...

scusa, ma prova a togliere la voodo2 e vedere se hai il 3D abilitato con la sola scheda matrox. Se è così ti puoi poi dedicare al problema della voodo, altrimenti hai troppe variabili contemporaneamente ... ovviamente in xorg.conf commenta la sezione dedicata alla voodo

se non riesco a venirne a capo proverò anche così...
confidavo non fosse così impossibile come configurazione.
