The Basics:

What is Unreal Tournament Revolution? Is it made by Epic?

UTR is a full conversion mod for Unreal Tournament 2004, that is essentially a remake of the original Unreal Tournament, developed by members of the community. Rather than a direct port, it will share all essential similarities while being somewhat of a major "upgrade" in terms of effects and capabilities. After all, what would be the point of a remake otherwise? We recognize there are many hardcore fans of the original UT and everyone wants certain aspects they care about to remain intact. Don't worry, we're hardcore fans of it ourselves, that's why we're remaking it, to maintain the integrity of the original game and enhance it, like many feel should have been done to begin with.

What are the requirements for UTR?

UTR requires you to have a licensed copy of UT2004 for online play. The requirements are basically the same, but probably even less than 2004 itself considering the maps will have more in common with the original UT in terms of simplicity.

Will we need patches etc for 2k4 to run UTR?

UTR is currently built on the 5th UT2004 patch 3339. But as of writing this FAQ you'll need the latest UT2004 patch currently at 3355 to play UTR at it's best

Why bother doing a remake of UT? People who like UT should just stick with it if they don't like UT2004.

There are many good reasons to do a remake. First of all, consider another example: CS:S is essentially the same game CS 1.6 is. Some people want the enhanced graphics and effects, but there are more benefits to be had for afficianados of the originals, such as optimized netcode, bugfixes, better AI, etc. And not all of us are pro-UT, anti-200x - rather, we all share the opinion that 200x went the wrong direction in many aspects, however there are enough reasons to own the game to be enjoyed for what it is. UTR is one more major reason, and one that will help draw the community together.

Why don't you make it a separate game? I don't want to have to buy UT2004.

The UTR team is comprised of members of the UT community just like yourselves, some of whom have thought it would be a great idea to make a mod. Now that the EULA has been updated to allow for content of previous games in the franchise to be used in that capacity, we are doing it. We do not have a license to make a seperate game.

Will UTR cost anything?

No, as with most game mods, it will be free for anyone to download anywhere in the world. The only price you pay is your spare time playing. Though we would like a beer fund

Does UTR have a website?

Yes if you've found this FAQ then your currently viewing: http://www.getutr.com Be sure to visit our forums and IRC channel located on Quakenet #utr

Can I join the team? I have specific skills in coding/modelling/mapping.

We only need people with modelling, skinning, animation or coding skills, if anything. Check with our website, or better yet, our IRC channel for the latest situation.

The Specifics:

Will there be UT crosshairs in UTR?

Hopefully, we're aiming for the feel of UT as it was. Crosshairs will be a small thing in the big project.

Will the UT headshots be in this mod?

Yes UT headshots will be in UTR. A poll was posted on the old UTR forums about this and the result was a good one. The Headshot system will be in place as it was in UTR so if you hit the top third of the body it will give you the headshot annoucer, etc.

Will you add the old school UT gibs?

Yes, gibs a plenty. Both limbs and full gibbable bodies will be in UTR

Will we be able to Feign death?

Hopefully yes. This may not appear right away but we aim to please and this should appear eventually.

Is this mod going to be a straight port of UT into UT2004, or will models and textures be improved?

The Models will be the originals, but Poly-beefed, as I like to call it. The original UT models were about 600 Polys, with the two Bonuspack 4 models weighing in at about 800, whereas the average UT2004 model is about 3000-5000 Polys. So the models should be 5-8x as nice, especially with more detailed skins.

Textures are being redone via several secret methods. Water and Static Meshes will be added to levels, as far as "Proper" terrain, we're looking into it.

Are we going to be able to punt the translocator like we can in UT?

Should be able to, yeah.

Will we be able to boost team mates and opponents like in UT?

Should be able to do this also.

Is there any concrete info about a menu for UTR? Will it be some amazing recreation of UWindows, or will it just be a customised UT2004 menu made to look more like the original UT?

We're looking in to the Menu system and a basic UWindows/UT2004 system will probably be worked on though it may not appear straight away in the Mod we'll aim to get it in as soon as possible. It will either be UWindows or a close as possible to UWindows.

Is it possible to port other mods like Chaos?

You'd almost certainly have to get their permission to do it, and we probably won't - we have enough work getting the whole Mod up and running. We'll leave other mods up their teams. If they want it released for UTR then they will work on it. But things like Chaos already have a UT2004 version.

What about Music? UT has awsome music, will it return in UTR?

We hope so, as asked the UT music was awsome so as the aim is for UTR to bring back UT so we'll hopefully provide you with UT music.
