AMD RV670 to go on sale on 15 November 2007
We have news that the AMD HD 2900Pro release date is brought forward to 15 November 2007. There will be two models initially, a Pro and a XT model. Both uses the RV670 which is 55nm based, has 320 stream processors and a 256-bit memory interface.

There will be 2 versions of RV670; Gladiator and Revival. Gladiator is clocked at 825MHz core and 1.2GHz memory while Revival is clocked at 750MHz core and 900MHz memory. Gladiator has 512MB of GDDR4 memory and Revival comes with either 256MB or 512MB of GDDR3 memory. These cards will be single slot and is fully DX10.1/SM4.1 compliant. It supports PCI Express 2.0, UVD as well as the next generation Crossfire technology.*

Early benchmark numbers using beta drivers shows that the HD 2900Pro with a Q6600 quad core processor scores around 10500 marks.

The Pro version will be priced around $199 to $249.

At 742MHz an R600 core based Radeon HD 2900XT scores 474Gigaflops which is significantly lower score than what new chip can do.

The key element might be two flops per unit powered 320 Stream processor chip. This is not something new the original R600 managed to do this but still RV670 will be limited with 256 bit memory controller which will have to mean a slower performance at high resolutions.

Still, at a $249 price tag it looks quite good.

Mah, è ancora tutto da vedere e capire: ovviamente i GFlops da soli vogliono dire pochino. La parte che ho evidenziato è una considerazione abbastanza inutile, a mio avviso.
Non mi pare che la banda enorme della HD2900XT venisse saturata, i suoi problemi erano altri. Con memorie clockate a default a 2400MHz effettivi, la banda della HD2950XT sarebbe comunque di 76.8GB/s, ossia solo il 12.5% più stretta di una 8800GTX (e dunque parecchio più ampia di una GTS).
Il vero problema è nella funzionalità di ROPs e TMU.

PEccato che a livello di costi mi sa che non centri niente con una GTX...cmq credo che la pro sia quella più interessante.

E poi è di fascia media per risoluzioni come 1280x1024 / 1440x900 credo interssino più queste.

The base of RV670 design is the R600 architecture and ATI learned a lot from its mistakes. Nvidia overclocked Shader speed really boosted Nvidia's performance and ATI simply could not catch up.

It was a time for a new strategy. The RV670 is a redesigned and improved R600 core done in 65 nanometre with official support for PCIe 2.0. The base R600 design is improved with UVD and this is a something that was missing from this big card.

ATI added Shader model 4.1 and DirectX 10.1 support for this new core. At the same time the company claims that it managed to improve antialiasing performance and at the same time that it managed to reduce the memory interface bandwidth. The anisotropic texture filtering quality is also improved and at the same time ATI managed to reduce the transistor count.


We will soon see just how fast this new card really is.

Io personalmente uso un monitor da 1280x1024 ma posso dirti che questa volta punto sull'xt! Voglio comprare una scheda che rappresenti un investimento anche in vista di aggiornamenti futuri sia di pc che di monitor...
e sinceramente spero che questa scheda mi tenga risoluzioni come il 1920 dei video Full HD... Non pretendo di giocare a quelle risoluzioni tutto al massimo ovviamente, ma spero anche che vada decentemente a queste risoluzioni... 512MB a 2400MHz non sono pochini insomma...
