Ciao,

chiedo l'aiuto di qualche santone dello scsi.
Ho la possibilita' di avere ad un prezzo irrisorio il seguente controller IBM: 8I SAS CONTROLLER

Vorrei sapere come funzionano questi controller a zero-channel. Da quanto ho capito non hanno connessioni dirette per i dischi ma usano i canali del ctrl principale.
Questo vuol dire che devo avere un altro controller sas non raid, gli affianco questa scheda su slot pci-x e automaticamente il mio ctrl sfigato diventa raid?

non sono un santone ma penso proprio sia come dici tu

Praticamente aggiunge una funzione RAID a un controller normale.

un esempio con il zero-channel LSI, se hai un LSI53C1030 o un LSI53C1020 on board diventa un Megaraid 320-2 o 320-1 con una scheda 320-0.

devi guardare se quel controller è compatibile con la tua scheda madre e poi penso che sei a posto

Gli zero channel raid funzionano come detto, cioè non hanno connettori propri, i dischi si collegano comuqnue al controller della mobo, cui aggiungono funzionalità raid.
Questi dispositivi funzionano in genere solo accoppiati a determinate schede madri, di cui nascono proprio come integrazione, e questo mi sembra pensato per server ibm, non rischierei, secondo me non andrebbe.
