POV-Ray – Windows, Mac, or Linux – freeware
Homepage: http://www.povray.org
Description: POV-Ray (which stands for Persistence of Vision Raytracer) is a 3D creation tool. Unlike most 3D programs, it is not a modeler, but instead has a scripting language that allows the user to define the scene. It is very well known, and can be very powerful. If you do not like the idea of scripting, 3rd party applications are available which serves as modelers for POV-Ray, creating the scripts for you and then rendering with POV-Ray. One such application is Moray.
