Catalyst 7.8 disponibili per il download

AMD ha reso disponibili nei giorni scorsi nuovi driver Catalyst, giunti alla versione 7.8, per le proprie schede video della famiglia Radeon, comprese le nuove soluzioni basate su architetture R600; oltre ad alcuni miglioramenti prestazionali con vari titoli, in particolare con la versione DirectX 10 di Lost Planet, sono state introdotte innovazioni nella gestione della funzionalità ATI Overdrive con le schede video delle serie Radeon HD 2600 e Radeon HD 2400, con possibilitò di overcloccare sia GPU che memoria video in configurazioni Crossfire.

Performance improvements

• Lost Planet DX10 with anti-aliasing improves 11% or greater on ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT products
• 3DMark 2006 and 3DMark 2005 improves as much as 6% on The ATI Radeon HD 2600 Series (single card and Crossfire) and ATI Radeon HD 2400 Series (single card and Crossfire configurations)

New features

Enhanced ATI Overdrive support for the ATI Radeon HD 2600 Series and ATI Radeon HD 2400 Series

• This release of Catalyst™ introduces an enhanced version of ATI Overdrive for the ATI Radeon HD 2600 Series and ATI Radeon HD 2400 Series.  Users can now Overclock both GPU engine and graphics memory clock speeds in Crossfire mode (and over-clock single ATI Radeon graphics accelerators as well).  This version of ATI Overdrive also includes a new stress test application to verify any over-clocking speeds users may have configured (either manually or through the auto-tuning tool) on their ATI Radeon HD 2600 Series and ATI Radeon HD 2400 Series of graphics accelerators.

Resolved Issues

• A black screen is no longer observed on some hardware when switching to the console or leaving the X window system when a Vesa framebuffer console driver is used.
• Connecting a component Video display device launching X-Server no longer results in X-Server failing to start and the display device displaying a black screen.
• The DRI no longer fails to initialize in the second server generation.
• Pressing the identify displays function no longer results in display device 1 and 2 being incorrectly identified.
• A Floating Point Exception error no longer occurs when launching amdcccle.
