GamePC ha pubblicato una prova comparativa fra ben 9 dissipatori SocketA; trattato inoltre il problema della possibilità di rompere addirittura il core della propria CPU se si utilizza il cooler sbagliato. Se si tenta di utilizzare un Golden Orb per Socket370 con una cpu SocketA, ad esempio, nel 90% dei casi si andrà a distruggere definitivamente la propria cpu, crepando o comunque rompendone il core. Proprio per questo problema Thermaltake si è affrettata a rilasciare sul mercato una versione SocketA dei cooler Golden Orb, oltre ad un nuovo dissipatore, sempre per SocketA, chiamata Chrome Orb che si contraddistingue per il colore argento e che monta una ventola da addirittura 11.000 rpm. I dissipatori provati da GamePC sono i seguenti: Alpha PAL6035MUC, Alpha PFH6035MUC, Coolermaster DP5-5H53, Coolermaster DP5-6H51, Coolermaster Galileo (CH5-5K11) , Thermaltake Chrome Orb, ThermalTake Golden Orb SocketA. Just as we expected, the brute force of the Alpha PAL6035 reigns supreme and wins in every test.

Amazingly, Intel's revision 2 FC-PGA cooler works extremely well on Socket-A chips, keeping the CPU at nearly the same temperature of the Alpha, while staying much quieter and isn't as tall. Unfortunately, you can't just go out and buy one of these coolers, you have to grab one from a friend with a boxed FC-PGA CPU (only 933 MHz and above come with the new fan).

The Coolermaster Galileo did quite well, although not as good as we would have expected with such a cool copper heat pipe design. Although, we think when Coolermaster refines the technology and makes a cooler specifically for Socket-A, it could be a top performer.
